Study in 1st, 2nd, and 3rd John

John, the beloved apostle of Jesus, is writing towards the end of his life important ideas for the church. These ideas are needed today more than ever. As we study his letters we’ll see the heart of God, expressed as only John can, for the church. We will see God’s instructions on how to live for Him and for each other and how to recognize the spirit of the antichrist.

This is an on-going couples group doing studies that grow us closer to Jesus and help us find ways to be more like Him as men and women in His Kingdom. In this session we will be studying “Something Needs to Change” by David Platt. This study will explore what it means to follow Jesus in a world of urgent physical and spiritual need.

Study Materials: “Something Needs to Change” by David Platt. (Available on Amazon, Christian Book Distributors, and Lifeway).

This study will combine a verse-by-verse study of the first 11 chapters of Genesis along with a video series to examine what the Bible teaches concerning Creation, Adam and Eve, and the Flood. It is intended to complement the film “Is Genesis History” by looking at six key doctrines introduced in the first chapters of Genesis. These doctrines are related to the gospel and are important to understanding the nature of our salvation. After all, Genesis records the foundational events in the history of the world. Jesus Himself was there at the beginning, forming everything according to His purpose. As the Apostle John tells us, “All things were made through Him, and without Him was not any thing made that was made” (John 1:3). Genesis is therefore central to the work of Jesus Christ. Our hope is that by the end of this study, you will better understand how the first chapters of Genesis are related to His plan of salvation.

Peter wrote to encourage believers in Asia Minor to stand firm for Christ in the midst of persecution. Peter’s message continues to speak to modern believers, reminding us of our heavenly hope and eternal inheritance in the midst of our sufferings in an increasingly hostile world. Peter reminds us that we are called to holiness and love, that we are to glorify God in our daily lives, and that we are to imitate and follow the example of Jesus.

What does it look like to live with joy in a society that does not like what Christians believe, say, or do? It’s tempting to grow angry, keep our heads down, retreat, or just give up altogether. But this isn’t the first time that God’s people have had to learn how to live in a pagan world that opposes God’s rule. In this realistic yet positive book, renowned Bible teacher Alistair Begg examines the first seven chapters of Daniel to show us how to live bravely, confidently, and obediently in an increasingly secular society.
