Our History

A Venture of Faith

Calvary Chapel is a non-denominational Christian church which began in 1965 in Costa Mesa, California. Calvary Chapel’s pastor, Chuck Smith became a leading
figure in what has become known as the “Jesus Movement”.

It has been estimated that in a two-year period in the mid ’70s, Calvary Chapel of Costa Mesa had performed well over eight thousand baptisms. During that
same period, they were instrumental in 20,000 conversions to the Christian faith.

Today, Calvary Chapel of Costa Mesa, the church which only had twenty-five members has established more than twelve hundred affiliate Calvary Chapels across
the world.. It is one of the largest Protestant churches in the United States.

CALVARY CHAPEL IN HILLSBORO

Amazed by God's Faithfulness

Amazed by God's Faithfulness

Calvary Chapel Worship Center started in February of 1990 as a Bible study with twelve people in the living room of Pastor Rich and his wife, Jordi’s home. After a few weeks the group moved to Sunday morning services at Meadow Park Junior High School where the church met weekly for two years.

After two years at Meadow Park Junior High, the church moved to Tualatin Valley Junior Academy (TVJA) on Baseline Road in Hillsboro. At TVJA we met in the gymnasium so we affectionately called it the “sanctuasium.”

The church saw significant growth in throughout that season and then in 1996 we merged with Faith Bible Church. In 1997, the church bought some acreage on Alexander Street in Hillsboro. There were many government layers of fun bureaucracy, but eventually we were able to start building our church facility in Hillsboro.

We finally moved into our new church building in the fall of 2002! God continued to show His faithfulness throughout the years that would follow.

In the summer of 2013, the Lord began to move upon the hearts of the church leadership regarding the potential of adding a church campus in Beaverton. This would open the doors for us to become a multi-site church and expand our ministry into the city of Beaverton.

From the fall of 2013 to the winter 2014, we began to cast the vision for our Beaverton Campus. We initiated monthly meetings and pre-launch gatherings where ministry teams and our new community would begin form.

In May, 2014, the Beaverton Campus was officially launched at Southridge High School. From the start, God confirmed this was His plan as we have seen His continued blessings poured out on this new work. Then, in January, 2018, the Beaverton campus grew to become an independent Calvary Chapel church under the leadership of Pastor Samuel Wilson. It’s exciting to see that church grow to such maturity.

Over the years, we have seen God’s faithfulness and it has been such a joy to see the church grow and prosper as God’s Word is taught from Genesis to Revelation, and as the Holy Spirit fills the church with His presence both in the teaching of His Word and in the anointing of His worshipers in the church.
