Longing—a longing for something that will last. It is a universal feeling that I believe God has placed in our hearts. It is a thirst, a hunger, and a desire within our hearts that longs to be satisfied. In John 7, Jesus reveals himself as the one who can satisfy our longing. He is the one we need, and his invitation is for us to come!

So let’s look now at John 7, and I want to set the stage for us because this story has so much cultural background and context surrounding it that if we don’t step back and look at it from a 30,000 view, we might miss the significance of what Jesus said.

John 7:37-39    NASB

37 Now on the last day, the great day of the feast, Jesus stood and cried out, saying, “If anyone is thirsty, let him come to Me and drink. 38 He who believes in Me, as the Scripture said, ‘From his innermost being will flow rivers of living water.’” 39 But this He spoke of the Spirit, whom those who believed in Him were to receive; for the Spirit was not yet given, because Jesus was not yet glorified.
