Be Born of the Spirit
John 3:1-21
August 18, 2024
In John 3, we have one of the most well-known conversations in all of the Bible. One of the leaders of Israel, a Pharisee named Nicodemus, came to Jesus at night for a private conversation. In many ways, however, it’s actually a conversation between God and all of mankind.
Some of the most quoted verses in the Bible are found in this chapter. Many of these are so familiar, that people tend to skip over this chapter.
But these verses are far deeper than many people realize, and they contain some absolutely essential truths on salvation that God expects us to understand.
At one point, Jesus says to Nicodemus, “You are the teacher of Israel, and do not understand these things?” If we apply this to us, Jesus might be asking us, ‘you have been in church for so long, but are you sure that you understand these fundamental truths?’
This is the basic foundation on which our faith is built. Many say that they don’t know how to lead people to Christ. These are the truths that we use to impact the world with the gospel. Not only that, but it radically impacts your life in this life and your eternal security. This is the good news we need to firmly be grounded in.
I. You Must be Born Again
- Nicodemus opens with a statement rather than a question, “We know that You have come from God as a teacher…”
- This is an amazing admission, especially considering what happened in chapter 2 where Jesus braided a whip and drove the money changers out of the temple. The leaders weren’t pleased, but no one could deny the power of His miracles.
- Jesus gets right to the point, as if He is saying, ‘you see me as a teacher, so let me immediately teach you. We are not going to beat around the bush.’ “Unless one is born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.”
- This is more than just another theoretical philosophy to take note of. It is a radical notion.
A. You must die to live
- Nicodemus is shocked by this statement and does not understand it, “How can a man be born when he is old?”
- What does it mean? Is it just trying to change? A fresh start? A do over?
- We also love the idea of a do-over. In golf, it’s called Mulligan. Or if you are playing a video game, and you lose, you can just restart and do it again.
- Unfortunately, in life there are many instances that you cannot get a do over. Actions have consequences, and many times consequences can be devastating. This is one of the primary effects of sin, and people carry their deep regrets and deep shame deep in their souls.
- For many people, the phrase “born again” has lost its meaning. In a survey, 70% of people claim to be Christian, but many don’t acknowledge Jesus Christ as savior. or belief in objective truth grounded in the Bible. 57% of those embrace the concept of Karma. Only 6% have a biblical worldview.
- The world has pirated the phrase and given it back without meaning. But its meaning is absolutely essential because Jesus said, “Unless one is born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.”
- What does being born again mean? It means that you died and have been given new life in Christ. Death no longer has a hold on you.
Illus – Let’s say someone who committed a crime dies. A week later the sherif shows up at his house wanting to arrest him…
- Nicodemus responded, “How can these things be?” Jesus explained…
B. You are born again by the Holy Spirit
- In verses 5-6, Jesus explained that one must be born of water and the Spirit, saying “That which is born of the flesh is flesh, and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit.”
- All people are naturally born of water, but being naturally born is not enough to enter the Kingdom of God. There must be a spiritual rebirth as well.
- Remember that God told Adam and Eve that if they would eat from the forbidden tree, they would die.
- When Adam and Eve sinned, they did not die in the flesh, but they were separated from God which brought spiritual death. Separation from God is death because He is the source of life.
- The effects of spiritual death would result in sin starting to distort and destroy life and them eventually dying in the flesh as well. Sin, death, and separation from God became the lot of everyone that is the offspring of Adam and Eve, in other words, us.
- Every person, no matter how much they resist, has the knowing deep inside that something is missing. They might pridefully say that they need no one and there is no God, but there is always that dark dreadful knowing that it is not the truth.
- The spirit needs to be made alive, or reborn. It must come alive to God, connecting with the Source of life again.
- Jesus used the illustration of the wind blowing where it wishes and that you only hear the sound of it. So is everyone who is born of the spirit.
- When someone is born again you don’t necessarily see something major happened on the outside. They don’t in a flash develop muscles like the Rock, or grow another foot taller, or grow back all the hair on their bald heads. But something does happen.
Illus – You cannot see the wind, but you can see the effects of the wind. Wind has great power although it is invisible. By watching the leaves or dust you can even determine the direction of the wind.
- The same is true of those who are born again. On the outside nothing might immediately change, but there is a new force, a new power, a new perspective, a new direction to a person’s life.
- Again, Nicodemus asked, “How can these things be?” Jesus responded, “You are the teacher of Israel, and do not understand these things? In other words, God’s Word made it clear that the Spirit would give them a new heart.
Ezekiel 11:19, “I will put a new spirit within them, and I will take their heart of stone and give them a heart of flesh.”
Ezekiel 36:26-27, 29 “I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit within you; and I will remove your heart of stone and give you a heart of flesh. I will put My Spirit within you… And I will save you from all your uncleanness.”
- Jesus explained to Nicodemus that we are born again by the work of the Holy Spirit in our lives, giving us a new heart because we have believed in the Son of God for eternal life.
- A new heart speaks of something that is alive, with new love, new desires, old things passed away.
2 Corinthians 5:17, If anyone is in Christ, he is a new creature; the old things passed away; behold, new things have come.
II. Whoever Believes in Him has Eternal Life
- Beginning with verse 14, Jesus explains the most important truths man will ever know.
- First, Jesus explained that the Son of Man must be lifted up in the same way that Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness.
A. Look unto Jesus, the serpent of our sin
- At first, that might seem like an extremely provocative statement, but that is exactly what Jesus is teaching Nicodemus in verse 14.
- When Moses was leading the people of Israel to the desert, they had to go around the land of Edom and the people became impatient. It was hot, they wanted more water, and they hated the manna. They were complaining terribly. Then God sent fiery serpents among them.
- The penalty of sin is the fiery serpent that wants to destroy us. It was man represented by Adam and Eve being discontent, proud, being rebellious against God that broke relationship with God.
- We see this continuation of the spirit of rebellion all through history and all around us. Many people say, why do I have to be punished because Adam and Eve sinned? This is a misconception. Everyone has the seed of pride and rebellion in them. No one is without sin.
1 Samuel 15:23, For rebellion is as the sin of witchcraft, and stubbornness is as iniquity and idolatry.
- Many things that people are proud of and celebrate today is in direct violation of God’s authority, in essence directly challenging God.
- It might be easy to point fingers at others, but the truth is that the spirit of the rebellion is or was at work in all of us. All have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God.
- We see a principle being modeled by Israel though. The people were sorry. They repented and said to Moses, “We have sinned by speaking against the Lord, intercede with the Lord for us.”
- God then instructs Moses to make a serpent of bronze, lift it up on a standard; and anyone who look upon it, will live.
- The snake, Satan, which seduced Eve was cursed by God. From then the snake became the symbol of evil and the curse.
- In the same way then, Jesus said that He is that serpent lifted up, He became the curse for us, He who had no sin took our sin upon Himself and anyone who looks upon Him will live. You look upon Him believing that He has conquered death for you and is giving you life.
John 10:17-18, “I lay down My life so that I may take it again. No one has taken it away from Me, but I lay down on my own accord. I have authority to lay down, and I have authority to take it up again. This commandment I received from My Father.”
Illus – We know that power and authority are very important. We’re fascinated by things that have power. Young boys stand in awe of men with bulging arms in the gym. I always want to know the horsepower of a muscle car; but there is a power so great, none of us can defeat its power – the grave. You can try all the aging cures you want, eventually death comes. You cannot bribe it with all the money in the world. You cannot even plan for when it will happen. It can be in years, or in a split-second.
- But there is one that conquered sin and death for us: Jesus.
John 11:25-26, Jesus said to her, “I am the resurrection and the life; he who believes in Me will live even if he dies, and everyone who lives and believes in Me will never die. Do you believe this?”
B. God sent His Son to save
- In verses 16-17 Jesus gives us the heart of the Lord like no other scripture in the entire Bible.
- First, Jesus explained that He was sent because God loved the world so much. But the world He’s referring to is a world filled with sinners.
Mark 2:17, Jesus said to them, “It is not those who are healthy who need a physician, but those who are sick; I did not come to call the righteous, but sinners.”
- It is in believing that we have life in His name. The first thing we have to believe is that we are sinners in need of a Savior.
Illus – Nicodemus was a good and moral man, but Jesus said to him, “You must be born again.” We generally think of Pharisees in a negative light, but Nicodemus was sincere, he not only studied the scriptures, he studied the Mishnah, a Jewish book which expounded on the scriptures. There were 24 chapters on how to keep the Sabbath. He also studied the Talmud, a commentary on the Mishnah. Yet it was not enough, Jesus said, “You must be born again.”
- When you die and stand at the gates of heaven and are asked, “Why should God let you into the kingdom of heaven?” What will you say? I was a good and moral person? I’ve tried to keep the Ten Commandments? Jesus told Nicodemus it was not enough.
Romans 3:10, 12, “There is none righteous, not even one… There is none who does good, there is not even one.”
Illus – Personal sin quickly becomes clear when we look at the ten commandments…
Isaiah 64:6, For all of us have become like one who is unclean, and all our righteous deeds are like a filthy garment; and all of us wither like a leaf, and our iniquities, like the wind, take us away.
C. Receive life now
- This is one of those essential truths that has to be taken hold of and applied. God is offering life because of the greatness of His love. God sent His Son so that whoever believes in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life. The emphasis is on
- Our sin, like the wind, takes us a way. It is like a tornado that has you in its grip leading you away to destruction.
- Jeus is calling you to come under the control of a new wind: the wind of the Spirit of God.
- All have sinned and fallen short, all need a Savior. But everyone has a choice. You can continue with your charade that everything is fine, standing tall in your pride, while in reality on the inside there is brokenness, hurt and destruction.
1 John 1:9, If we confess our sins, He is faithful and righteous to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
- What does this mean? Come in agreement with God. God cannot force you to be saved.
Illus – It is like a coastguard rescuer holding his hand out to someone drowning in the sea. That person can choose to admit he needs help and take the rescuers hand or choose to dive under the water into death. You need to say, please help me.
- Some scoff and ask, where is God? If he is real and so powerful and we are so sinful, why is He not judging this world? In other words, they say, we can do what we want, there is no God. Be very careful. Don’t tempt God.
2 Peter 3:9, The Lord is not slow about His promise, as some count slowness, but is patient toward you, not wishing for any to perish but for all to come to repentance.
- Verse 17-18 – For God did not send the Son into the world to judge the world, but that the world might be saved through Him. He who believes in Him is not judged; he who does not believe has been judged already, because he has not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God.
- There will be a day when everyone’s sin and sinfulness will be judged, but it is God’s heart that none should perish but have eternal life.
D. Walk in the Light
- We do not come to Christ out of fear of eternal death alone, though. Fear is a terrible motivator. We do not only run from something, but need to run towards something better.
- Being born again is the beginning of new life with Christ. As we are born again by the Spirit, so we should also walk by the Spirit.
- That means we are walking in a relationship with God Himself. And it’s that relationship that transforms and changes our lives. As we read, apply and take hold of His word, as we become quiet and allow His Spirit to whisper inside us, we are changed.
1 John 4:17, By this, love is perfected with us, so that we may have confidence in the day of judgment; because as He is, so also are we in this world.
- He invites us into a new life in this life as well. A life not ruled by anxiety, but His peace, knowing that He holds your life in His hands. A new life that is no longer without purpose, but knowing that He has purposed you for something beautiful.
- This life changes us and gives us hope in many ways, ways that we might not even see yet.
- He changes our nature so that we want to live and walk in the light. Sin will still entice, minds still have to be renewed, but inside we are made new, born again, born of the Spirit.
- Are you tired of living in darkness without hope? Jesus is calling.
John 3:1-21 NASB
3 1Now there was a man of the Pharisees, named Nicodemus, a ruler of the Jews; 2 this man came to Jesus by night and said to Him, “Rabbi, we know that You have come from God as a teacher; for no one can do these signs that You do unless God is with him.” 3 Jesus answered and said to him, “Truly, truly, I say to you, unless one is born again he cannot see the kingdom of God.”
4 Nicodemus *said to Him, “How can a man be born when he is old? He cannot enter a second time into his mother’s womb and be born, can he?” 5 Jesus answered, “Truly, truly, I say to you, unless one is born of water and the Spirit he cannot enter into the kingdom of God. 6 That which is born of the flesh is flesh, and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit. 7 Do not be amazed that I said to you, ‘You must be born again.’ 8 The wind blows where it wishes and you hear the sound of it, but do not know where it comes from and where it is going; so is everyone who is born of the Spirit.”
9 Nicodemus said to Him, “How can these things be?” 10 Jesus answered and said to him, “Are you the teacher of Israel and do not understand these things? 11 Truly, truly, I say to you, we speak of what we know and testify of what we have seen, and you do not accept our testimony. 12 If I told you earthly things and you do not believe, how will you believe if I tell you heavenly things? 13 No one has ascended into heaven, but He who descended from heaven: the Son of Man. 14 As Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, even so must the Son of Man be lifted up; 15 so that whoever believes will in Him have eternal life.
16 “For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish, but have eternal life. 17 For God did not send the Son into the world to judge the world, but that the world might be saved through Him. 18 He who believes in Him is not judged; he who does not believe has been judged already, because he has not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God. 19 This is the judgment, that the Light has come into the world, and men loved the darkness rather than the Light, for their deeds were evil. 20 For everyone who does evil hates the Light, and does not come to the Light for fear that his deeds will be exposed. 21 But he who practices the truth comes to the Light, so that his deeds may be manifested as having been wrought in God.”

En el evangelio según San Juan capítulo tres, tenemos una de las conversaciones más conocidas de toda la Biblia. Uno de los líderes de Israel, un fariseo llamado Nicodemo, se acercó a Jesús por la noche para tener una conversación privada. En muchos sentidos, sin embargo, es en realidad una conversación entre Dios y toda la humanidad.
Algunos de los versículos más citados de la Biblia se encuentran en este capítulo. Muchos de estos son tan familiares, que la gente tiende a saltar este capítulo.
Pero estos versículos son mucho más profundos de lo que muchas personas creen y contienen algunas verdades absolutamente esenciales sobre la salvación que Dios espera que entendamos.
En un momento dado, Jesús le dice a
Nicodemo: “Tú eres el maestro de Israel, ¿y no entiendes estas cosas?” Si aplicamos esto a nosotros, Jesús podría estar preguntándonos: ‘Has estado en la iglesia durante tanto tiempo, pero ¿estás seguro de que entiendes estas verdades fundamentales?’
Este es el fundamento básico sobre el que se construye nuestra fe. Muchos dicen que no saben cómo llevar a la gente a Cristo. Estas son las verdades que usamos para impactar al mundo con el evangelio. No solo eso, sino que impacta radicalmente tu vida en esta vida y tu seguridad eterna. Esta es la buena noticia en la que debemos basarnos firmemente.
- Debes Nacer de Nuevo
⮚ Nicodemo comienza con una declaración en lugar de una pregunta: “Sabemos que has venido de Dios como maestro”…
⮚ Esta es una admisión asombrosa,
especialmente considerando lo que sucedió en el capítulo 2 donde Jesús trenzó un látigo y expulsó a los cambistas del templo. Los líderes no estaban contentos, pero nadie podía negar el poder de sus milagros.
⮚ Jesús va directo al punto, como Él dijera: “Ustedes me ven como un maestro, así que déjenme enseñarles inmediatamente. No vamos a darle vuelta al asunto. “El que no naciere de nuevo, no puede ver el reino de Dios”.
⮚ Esto es más que otra filosofía teórica a tener en cuenta. Es una noción radical.
- Debes morir para vivir
⮚ Nicodemo se sorprende por esta afirmación y no la entiende: “¿Cómo puede nacer un hombre siendo viejo?”
⮚ ¿Qué significa? ¿Es tratar de cambiar? ¿O un nuevo comienzo? ¿O volver a empezar?
⮚ A nosotros nos encanta la idea de volver a intentarlo. En el golf, se llama “Mulligan”. O si estás jugando a un videojuego y pierdes, puedes reiniciar y hacerlo de nuevo.
⮚ Desafortunadamente, en la vida hay muchos casos en los que uno no puede retroceder e intentar hacerlo de nuevo.
⮚ Las acciones tienen consecuencias, y muchas veces las consecuencias pueden ser devastadoras. Este es uno de los principales efectos del pecado, y las personas llevan sus profundos remordimientos y vergüenza en lo profundo de sus almas.
⮚ Para muchas personas, la frase “nacer de nuevo” ha perdido su significado. En una encuesta, el 70% de las personas afirman ser cristianas, pero muchas personas no reconocen a Jesucristo como Salvador, o creen en la verdad objetiva basada en la Biblia. El 57% de ellos abraza el concepto de ‘Karma’. Solo el 6% tiene una visión bíblica del mundo.
⮚ El mundo ha pirateado la frase y la ha devuelto sin sentido. Pero su significado es absolutamente esencial porque Jesús dijo: “El que no naciere de nuevo, no puede ver el reino de Dios”.
⮚ ¿Qué significa nacer de nuevo? Significa que
has muerto y se te ha dado una nueva vida en Cristo. La muerte ya no te atrapa.
Ilustración: Digamos que alguien que cometió un crimen muere. Una semana más tarde, el ‘sheriff’ se presenta en su casa queriendo arrestarlo…
⮚ Nicodemo respondió: “¿Cómo pueden ser estas cosas?” Jesús explicó…
- Has nacido de nuevo por el Espíritu Santo
⮚ En los versículos 5-6, Jesús explicó que uno debe nacer del agua y del Espíritu, diciendo: “Lo que es nacido de la carne, carne es, y lo que es nacido del Espíritu, espíritu es”.
⮚ Todas las personas nacen naturalmente del
agua, pero nacer naturalmente no es suficiente para entrar en el Reino de Dios. También debe haber un renacimiento espiritual.
⮚ Recuerde que Dios les dijo a Adán y Eva que si comían del árbol prohibido, morirían.
⮚ Cuando Adán y Eva pecaron, no murieron en
la carne, sino que fueron separados de Dios, lo que trajo la muerte espiritual. La separación de Dios es la muerte porque Él es la fuente de la vida.
⮚ Los efectos de la muerte espiritual resultarían
en que el pecado comenzaría a distorsionar y destruir la vida y eventualmente morirían en la carne también. El pecado, la muerte y la separación de Dios se convirtieron en la suerte de todos los descendientes de Adán y Eva, en otras palabras, nosotros.
⮚ Cada persona, no importa cuánto se resista,
tiene el conocimiento profundo de que le falta algo. Pueden decir con orgullo que no necesitan a nadie y 4
que no hay Dios, pero siempre existe ese oscuro y terrible conocimiento de que no es la verdad.
⮚ El espíritu necesita ser vivificado y renacer.
Debe volver a la vida con Dios, conectándose con la Fuente de la vida de nuevo.
⮚ Jesús usó la ilustración del viento que sopla
donde quiere y que solo se escucha su sonido. Así es todo el que es nacido del espíritu.
⮚ Cuando alguien nace de nuevo, no
necesariamente ve que algo importante haya sucedido en el exterior. No desarrollan instantáneamente los músculos como una roca, ni crecen otro pie más alto, ni vuelven a crecer todo el pelo de sus cabezas calvas. Pero algo sucede.
Illus – No se puede ver el viento, pero se pueden ver los efectos del viento. El viento tiene un gran poder aunque sea invisible. Observando las hojas o el polvo se puede determinar incluso la dirección del viento.
⮚ Lo mismo es cierto de aquellos que han nacido
de nuevo. En el exterior nada puede cambiar inmediatamente, pero hay una nueva fuerza, un nuevo poder, una nueva perspectiva, una nueva dirección en la vida de una persona.
⮚ De nuevo, Nicodemo preguntó: “¿Cómo pueden ser estas cosas?” Jesús le respondió: “¿Tú eres
el maestro de Israel, y no entiendes estas cosas? En otras palabras, la Palabra de Dios hizo claro que el Espíritu les daría un corazón nuevo.
Ezequiel 11:19, “Pondré un espíritu nuevo dentro de ellos, y tomaré su corazón de piedra, y les daré un corazón de carne”.
Ezequiel 36:26-27, 29 “Os daré un corazón nuevo, y pondré un espíritu nuevo dentro de vosotros; y quitaré tu corazón de piedra y te daré un corazón de carne. Pondré Mi Espíritu dentro de ti. Y yo te salvaré de toda tu inmundicia”.
⮚ Jesús le explicó a Nicodemo que nacemos de nuevo por la obra del Espíritu Santo en nuestras vidas, dándonos un corazón nuevo porque hemos creído en el Hijo de Dios para la vida eterna.
⮚ Un corazón nuevo habla de algo que está vivo,
con un nuevo amor, nuevos deseos, las cosas viejas pasaron.
2 Corintios 5:17 – Nueva Biblia de las Américas
De modo que si alguno está en Cristo, nueva criatura es; las cosas viejas pasaron, ahora han sido hechas nuevas.
- Todo el que cree en Él tiene Vida Eterna
⮚ Comenzando con el versículo 14, Jesús explica las verdades más importantes que el hombre conocerá.
⮚ Primero, Jesús explicó que el Hijo del Hombre debe ser levantado de la misma manera que Moisés levantó a la serpiente en el desierto.
- Levanta tus ojos a Jesús, representado como la serpiente de nuestro pecado (cuando Moises dijo que levantaran la serpiente.)
⮚ Al principio, eso puede parecer una
declaración extremadamente provocativa, pero eso es exactamente lo que Jesús le está enseñando a Nicodemo en el versículo 14.
⮚ Cuando Moisés estaba guiando al pueblo de Israel al desierto, tuvieron que rodear la tierra de Edom y el pueblo se impacientó. Hacía calor, querían más agua y odiaban el maná. Se quejaban
terriblemente. Entonces Dios envió serpientes de fuego entre ellos.
⮚ El castigo del pecado es la serpiente de fuego que quiere destruirnos.
⮚ Los humanos, representados por Adán y Eva estando descontentos, orgullosos y rebeldes contra Dios los que rompieron la relación con Dios.
⮚ Vemos esta continuación del espíritu de rebelión a lo largo de la historia y a nuestro alrededor. Mucha gente dice, ¿por qué tengo que ser castigado porque Adán y Eva pecaron? Este es un concepto erróneo. Todos tienen la semilla del orgullo y la rebelión en ellos. Nadie está libre de pecado.
1 Samuel 15:23, Porque la rebelión es como el pecado de la hechicería, y la obstinación como la iniquidad y la idolatría”.
⮚ Muchas cosas de las que la gente se enorgullece y celebra hoy en día están en violación directa de la autoridad de Dios, en esencia, desafiando directamente a Dios.
⮚ Puede ser fácil señalar con el dedo a los demás, pero la verdad es que el espíritu de la rebelión está o estuvo en acción en todos nosotros. “Todos han pecado y están destituidos de la gloria de Dios”.
⮚ Sin embargo, vemos un principio que está siendo modelado por Israel. La gente estaba arrepentida. Se arrepintieron y le dijeron a Moisés: “Hemos pecado al hablar contra el Señor, intercede ante el Señor por nosotros”.
⮚ Entonces Dios instruye a Moisés para que haga una serpiente de bronce, la levante sobre un estandarte; y cualquiera que lo mire, vivirá.
⮚ La serpiente, Satanás, que sedujo a Eva fue maldecida por Dios. A partir de entonces, la serpiente se convirtió en el símbolo del mal y la maldición.
⮚ De la misma manera, entonces, Jesús dijo que Él es esa “serpiente” levantada, Él se hizo maldición por nosotros, Él que no tuvo pecado tomó nuestro pecado sobre sí mismo y cualquiera que lo mire vivirá. Miras a Jesús, creyendo que Él ha conquistado la muerte por ti y te está dando la vida.
Juan 10:17-18: 17 Por eso el Padre me ama, porque Yo doy Mi vida para tomarla de nuevo. 18 Nadie me la quita, sino que Yo la doy de Mi propia voluntad. Tengo autoridad para darla, y tengo autoridad para tomarla de nuevo. Este mandamiento recibí de Mi Padre.
Illus: Sabemos que el poder y la autoridad son muy importantes. Nos fascinan las cosas que tienen poder. Los niños pequeños se asombran de los hombres con molleros en los brazos en el gimnasio. Siempre quiero saber la potencia de un carro deportivo con un motor potente; Pero hay un poder tan grande que ninguno de nosotros puede vencer su poder: la tumba.
Puedes probar todas las curas para el
envejecimiento que quieras, eventualmente llega la muerte. No puedes sobornarlo con todo el dinero del mundo. Ni siquiera puedes planificar cuándo sucederá. Puede ser en años o en una fracción de segundo.
⮚ Pero hay uno que venció el pecado y la muerte por nosotros: Jesús.
Juan 11:25-26 – Nueva Biblia de las Américas
Jesús le contestó: «Yo soy la resurrección y la vida; el que cree en Mí, aunque muera, vivirá, y todo el que vive y cree en Mí, no morirá jamás. ¿Crees esto?».
- Dios envió a Su Hijo para salvar
⮚ En los versículos 16-17 Jesús nos da el corazón del Señor como ninguna otra escritura en toda la Biblia.
⮚ Primero, Jesús explicó que Él fue enviado porque Dios amaba tanto al mundo. Pero el mundo al que se refiere es un mundo lleno de pecadores.
Marcos 2:17, Jesús les dijo: “No son los sanos los que necesitan médico, sino los enfermos; No he venido a llamar a justos, sino a pecadores”.
⮚ Es en creer que tenemos vida en Su nombre. Lo primero que tenemos que creer es que somos pecadores que necesitan un Salvador.
Nicodemo era un hombre bueno y moral, pero Jesús le dijo: “Es necesario que nazcas de nuevo”. Generalmente pensamos en los fariseos de manera negativa, pero Nicodemo era sincero, no solo estudiaba las Escrituras, sino que estudiaba la Mishná, un libro judío que exponía las Escrituras.
Habían 24 capítulos sobre cómo guardar el sábado. También estudió el ‘Talmud’, un comentario sobre la ‘Mishná’. Sin embargo, no fue suficiente, Jesús dijo: “Es necesario nacer de nuevo”.
⮚ Cuando mueres y estás a las puertas del cielo y te pregunten: “¿Por qué Dios te ha de permitir entrar en el reino de los cielos?” ¿Qué vas a decir?: ¿Era una persona buena y moral? ¿He tratado de guardar los Diez Mandamientos? Jesús le dijo a Nicodemo que no era suficiente.
Romanos 3:10, 12, “No hay justo, ni siquiera uno… No hay quien haga el bien, no hay ni uno solo”.

6 Todos nosotros somos como el inmundo, y como trapo de inmundicia todas nuestras obras justas. Todos nos marchitamos como una hoja, y nuestras iniquidades, como el viento, nos arrastran.

⮚ Esta es una de esas verdades esenciales que
hay que tomar y aplicar. Dios está ofreciendo vida debido a la grandeza de su amor. Dios envió a su Hijo para que todo aquel que en él cree, no se pierda, sino que tenga vida eterna. El énfasis está en la vida.
⮚ Nuestro pecado, como el viento, nos lleva por
un camino. Es como un tornado que te tiene en sus garras, llevándote a la destrucción.
⮚ Jesús te llama a ponerte bajo el control de un viento nuevo: el viento del Espíritu de Dios.
⮚ Todos han pecado y se han quedado cortos, todos necesitan un Salvador. Pero todo el mundo tiene una opción. Puedes continuar con tu farsa de que todo está bien, manteniéndote erguido en tu orgullo, mientras que en realidad en el interior hay ruptura, dolor y destrucción.
1 Juan 1:9, “Si confesamos nuestros pecados, Él es fiel y justo para perdonar nuestros pecados y limpiarnos de toda maldad”.
⮚ ¿Qué significa esto? Haga de acuerdo con Dios. Dios no puede obligarte a ser salvo.
Es como un rescatista de la guardia costera extendiendo su mano a alguien que se está ahogando en el mar. Esa persona puede optar por admitir que necesita ayuda y tomar la mano de los rescatistas o elegir sumergirse bajo el agua hacia la muerte. Tienes que decir, “por favor, ayúdame”.
⮚ Algunos se burlan y preguntan: ¿Dónde está Dios? Si Él es real y tan poderoso y nosotros somos tan pecadores, ¿por qué no está juzgando a este mundo? En otras palabras, dicen, podemos hacer lo que queramos, no hay Dios. Ten mucho cuidado. No tientes a Dios.

El Señor no se tarda en cumplir Su promesa, según algunos entienden la tardanza, sino que es paciente para con ustedes, no queriendo que nadie perezca, sino que todos vengan al arrepentimiento.
Juan 3:17-18 – Nueva Biblia de las Américas
17 Porque Dios no envió a Su Hijo al mundo para juzgar al mundo, sino para que el mundo sea salvo por Él. 18 El que cree en Él no es condenado; pero el que no cree, ya ha sido condenado, porque no ha creído en el nombre del unigénito Hijo de Dios.
⮚ Habrá un día en que el pecado y la pecaminosidad de todos serán juzgados, pero es el corazón de Dios que nadie perezca sino que tenga vida eterna.

⮚ Sin embargo, no venimos a Cristo solo por
miedo a la muerte eterna. El miedo es un terrible motivador. No solo huimos de algo, sino que necesitamos correr hacia algo mejor.
⮚ Nacer de nuevo es el comienzo de una nueva
vida con Cristo. Así como nacemos de nuevo por el Espíritu, también debemos caminar por el Espíritu.
⮚ Eso significa que estamos caminando en una
relación con Dios mismo. Y es esa relación la que transforma y cambia nuestras vidas. A medida que leemos, aplicamos y nos aferramos a Su palabra, a medida que nos quedamos quietos y permitimos que
Su Espíritu susurre dentro de nosotros, somos cambiados.

17 En esto se perfecciona el amor en nosotros, para que tengamos confianza en el día del juicio, pues como Él es, así somos también nosotros en este mundo.
⮚ Él nos invita a una nueva vida también en esta vida. Una vida no gobernada por la ansiedad, sino por Su paz, sabiendo que Él tiene tu vida en Sus manos.
Una nueva vida que ya no carece de propósito, sino que sabe que Él te ha propuesto algo hermoso.
⮚ Esta vida nos cambia y nos da esperanza de muchas maneras, formas que tal vez ni siquiera veamos todavía.
⮚ Él cambia nuestra naturaleza para que queramos vivir y caminar en la luz. El pecado todavía seducirá, las mentes todavía tienen que ser renovadas, pero por dentro somos hechos nuevos, nacidos de nuevo, nacidos del Espíritu.
⮚ ¿Estás cansado de vivir en la oscuridad sin esperanza? Jesús te está llamando.
