Hebrews 4:1-5:14 NASB
Chapter 4
1 Therefore, let us fear if, while a promise remains of entering His rest, any one of you may seem to have come short of it. 2 For indeed we have had good
news preached to us, just as they also; but the word they heard did not profit them, because it was not united by faith in those who heard.
day from all His works”; 5 and again in this passage,” They shall not enter My rest.” 6 Therefore, since it remains for some to enter it, and those
who formerly had good news preached to them failed to enter because of disobedience,
For the one who has entered His rest has himself also rested from his works, as God did from His. 11 Therefore let us be diligent to enter that
rest, so that no one will fall, throughfollowing the same example of disobedience. 12 For the word of God is living and active and sharper than
any two-edged sword, and piercing as far as the division of soul and spirit, of both joints and marrow, and able to judge the thoughts and intentions
of the heart. 13 And there is no creature hidden from His sight, but all things are open and laid bare to the eyes of Him with whom we have to
do.
do not have a high priest who cannot sympathize with our weaknesses, but One who has been tempted in all things as we are, yet without sin. 16
Therefore let us draw near with confidence to the throne of grace, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help in time of need.
Chapter 5
1 For every high priest taken from among men is appointed on behalf of men in things pertaining to God, in order to offer both gifts and sacrifices for sins; 2
he can deal gently with the ignorant and misguided, since he himself also is beset with weakness; 3 and because of it he is obligated to offer sacrifices
for sins, as for the people, so also for himself. 4 And no one takes the honor to himself, but receives it when he is called by God, even as Aaron
was. 5 So also Christ did not glorify Himself so as to become a high priest, but He who said to Him, “You are My Son, Today I have begotten You”;
was heard because of His piety. 8 Although He was a Son, He learned obedience from the things which He suffered. 9 And having been made perfect,
He became to all those who obey Him the source of eternal salvation, 10 being designated by God as a high priest according to the order of Melchizedek.
11 Concerning him we have much to say, and it is hard to explain, since you have become dull of hearing. 12 For though by this time you ought to
be teachers, you have need again for someone to teach you the elementary principles of the oracles of God, and you have come to need milk and not
solid food. 13 For everyone who partakes only of milk is not accustomed to the word of righteousness, for he is an infant. 14 But solid food is
for the mature, who because of practice have their senses trained to discern good and evil.
