When Isaiah wrote the prophecy of Isaiah 9 it was a dark time for the nation of Israel. At the darkest hour, God gave the greatest promise. There is no question that these verses give the greatest promise known to man; that God would send an answer to darkness. That help is on the way.

Help is on the Way
Isaiah 9:1-7
March 22-23, 2025

The theme of Isaiah is revival. The people have wandered away from God, pursuing the gods of the world that appealed to their flesh. But God knew this would end in disaster, so He sent his prophets over and over to call his people to come back; to come back to revival.

Isaiah warned them of impending disaster. “If you will not believe, you will not stand.” But if they would believe, if they would honor and revere God, He would be a sanctuary for them, a place of safety in the storm.

God was warning them that there was a great storm on the horizon, the army of Assyria. One of the cruelest and most feared empires in the world was arising. It’s times like these that you need a rock to stand on, you need faith to believe that God is a firm foundation and a shelter from the storm.

God can be both. He can be a rock of salvation, a rock on which you can stand when everything that can be – will be – shaken; or He can be a rock of offense, a stone upon which many stumble.

Hebrews 12:26-27, “Yet once more I will shake not only the earth, but also the heaven” … So that those things which cannot be shaken may remain.

Isaiah 8:13-14, “It is the Lord of hosts whom you should regard as holy… Then He shall become a sanctuary; but to both houses of Israel, He will be a stone to strike and a rock to stumble over.”

They would not believe, they would not stand on the rock of salvation and come back to revival, so the great Assyrian army would flood the land… “They have rejected the gently flowing waters of Shiloh…. So the great waters of the Euphrates, the army of Assyria, would flood the land with distress and darkness, and the gloom of anguish; and they will be driven away into darkness.”

But even as God warns them of impending disaster that comes from pursuing the gods of the flesh, He holds out a word of hope. It’s amazing. He holds both before them; God will not quit, God will not relent, help is on the way.

Look at the contrast between the last verses of chapter 8 and the first verse of chapter 9… “They will pass through the land hard-pressed and famished, and when they are hungry, they will be enraged and curse their king and their God. They will look to the earth, and behold, distress in darkness, the gloom of anguish; and they will be driven away into darkness”… 9:1, “But there will be no more gloom for her who was in anguish; in earlier times He treated the land of Zebulun and the land of Naphtali with contempt, but later on He shall make it glorious, by the way of the sea, on the other side of Jordan, Galilee of the Gentiles.”

Chapter 9 applies to us. There is great application. So many conditions and events happening in the world are wearying and worrisome. The war in Israel with Hamas has restarted, to the great sadness of the world.  There is still heavy fighting in Russia and Ukraine. China’s heavy hand is a growing concern as it exerts its will over the world. Iran is one step away from developing a nuclear weapon. The dollar is weakening, and gold is rising.

You’re probably wondering, “Where are you going with all this? Great job, pastor, I brought friends and now you’re depressing all of us.” Here’s my point, the world was also weary when God sent Isaiah to Israel, to a dry and weary land where there is no water.

This is a broken, evil world and while there is great darkness, there will also be a time of revival.  Darkness will get darker, but a light will also dawn. Even during the Great Tribulation of the latter days, there will be many who turn to Christ for hope and salvation.

When Isaiah wrote the prophecy of Isaiah 9 it was a dark time for the nation of Israel. At the darkest hour, God gave the greatest promise. There is no question that these verses give the greatest promise known to man; that God would send an answer to darkness. That help is on the way.

God’s answer is His Son. Here in this chapter are those famous words, “Unto us a child is born, unto us a Son is given.” And the promises, hope, and help are given to us in the name spoken of in this prophecy.

God doesn’t stand by and watch as people destroy their lives, He does something about it; God is on the move, He is pursuing relationship. God sent His Son to seek and to save that which was lost. He is knocking on the door of hearts; He wants people to have life.

Isaiah speaks of the name that is given to the One who is coming as the hope of the world. You gain great spiritual insight when you understand the significance of His name.

I. Keep Watching and Waiting

  • Verses 2-3 – “The people who walk in darkness will see a great light… You will increase their gladness; they will be glad in Your presence.”
  • Darkness is oppressive to the soul… When you live in a time of trouble and there is darkness in the world, you need to keep watching and waiting for the fulfilling of God’s promise of hope and help.
  • The same is true today. This is a troubled world and God wants you to keep watching and waiting. Help and hope is on the way.
  • The message of Isaiah 9 is that help is on the way. Take heart, be comforted in a weary land where there is no water, God is giving a promise of help. Keep watching and waiting.
A.   A promise brings hope to a soul in anguish

  • When you’re in anguish and surrounded by trouble, you need hope, you need an answer.
App – Many are facing difficult and uncertain times personally. And then there are all the troubles in the world. Reading the news has become an anxious exercise. What is happening in the world today causes many to be deeply concerned.

History is changing before our eyes as troubles are increasing and people are weary and tired. Then, when you read biblical prophecy, you come to understand that this is merely the beginning. It’s like the pangs of childbirth; troubles will grow greater in intensity and closer together as the latter days draw near.

  • It’s one thing to groan in anguish under a massive burden of troubles, it’s another thing altogether to yearn for God’s answer to those troubles.
  • Faith believes that help is on the way.
Job 19:25-27, For I know that my Redeemer lives, and He shall stand at last on the earth; and after my skin is destroyed, this I know, that in my flesh I shall see God, whom I shall see for myself, and my eyes shall behold, and not another. Oh, how my heart yearns within me!

B.    Rejoice in the soul when God sends help

  • The land of Zebulun and Naphtali, the area of Galilee, received the worst of the oppression in those days when Assyria brought their armies from the north to destroy and take captive.
  • God will make glorious the place of darkest anguish and trouble because it is there that God would send His Son…
Matthew 4:13-14, And leaving Nazareth, He came and settle in Capernaum, which is by the sea, in the region of Zebulun and Naphtali.  This was to fulfill what was spoken through Isaiah the prophet…

  • Jesus did most of His miracles in the land of Zebulun and Naphtali, Galilee of the Gentiles. Great crowds came to hear Him preach and teach, there in the north, in the area of Galilee.
  • When God fulfills His promise, when God answers the hurt and anguish of the soul, the response should be joy and gladness; like the gladness of harvest, like when men rejoice after a great victory.
  • Verse 4 – When God breaks the yoke of your burden and the staff on your shoulders and the rod of your oppressor, joy is the right response.
Psalm 126:1-3, “When the Lord brought back the captive ones of Zion, we were like those who dream. Then our mouth was filled with laughter and our tongue with joyful shouting; then they said among the nations, ‘The Lord has done great things for them.’ The Lord has done great things for us; and we are glad.”

  • That hope, that promise, all that God gives is found in His Son… And given in His name.
  • You receive God’s answer when you receive God’s Son; everything is based on your relationship to Him.
II. God’s Help is Found in His Name

  • Jesus is also called Immanuel, God with us, that’s God answer, God will be with us.
  • “And His name shall be called…” In other words, God’s answer, God’s hope, God’s promise is found in Jesus’ name.
  • How powerful is His name?  Many in the world are uncomfortable just saying the name of Jesus. Some people use His name as a cuss word, “Jesus Christ!” they exclaim.  Why?  They want to reduce the power of the name.  That’s the only way they can handle saying His powerful name.
  • But those same people would find it difficult to say his name in a way that is holy and reverent.
  • But hey, if they get to bring up His name, then I get to also. When I was in the work-a-day world and someone would say, “Jesus Christ!” like a cuss word, instead of correcting or confronting, I would sometimes say, “That’s a powerful name you’re using. Did you know that at that name every knee will bow, and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord?”
  • How great is His name? …

Philippians 2:9-11, God has bestowed on Him the name which is above every other name, that at the name of Jesus every knee will bow, of those who are in heaven, and on earth, and under the earth, and that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the father.

  • …And His name shall be called Wonderful Counselor…

A.   He is Wonderful Counselor

  • The scripture tells us that the Lord will do marvelous, wonderful things.

1 Corinthians 2:9, Things which no eye has seen, and ear has not heard; and which have not entered the heart of man, all that God has prepared for those who love Him.

Ephesians 3:20, Now unto Him who is able to do exceedingly, abundantly beyond all we could ask or even think.

  • He is filled with all wisdom; His counsel is good and wise.  In this messed up world with messed up lives, wonderful counsel is what you need most.
Illus – It’s a light of revelation, like when a teenager, who was absolutely convinced that you didn’t know anything, that they’re going to figure everything out on their own, then grows up and has children of their own and then say, “Wow, you were right. I have so much more respect for you now.”

  • In Hebrew, the word, counselor means to “stand alongside.” You can imagine the help we would have if God were whispering in our ear.

Isaiah 30:21, Your ears will hear a word behind you, “This is the way, walk in it,” whenever you turn to the right or to the left.

Luke 11:21, “Behold; one greater than Solomon is here.”

  • His counsel is only helpful if you walk in it; if you take hold and apply it to your life.
Luke 6:47-48, “Everyone who comes to Me and hears My words and acts on them, I will show you whom he is like: he is like a man building a house, who dug deep and laid a foundation on the rock; and when a flood occurred, the torrent burst against that house and could not shake it, because it had been well built.”

B. He is Mighty God

  • Is there anything clearer to declare that Jesus is God? He has power over all things.
  • He turned the water into wine, healed lepers, raised the dead, has authority over demons and calmed the storm with a word of His command.
  • The signs of the times were right before their eyes.
Luke 8:25, And He said to them, “Where is your faith?” They were fearful and amazed, saying to one another, “Who then is this, that He commands even the wind and the sea, and they obey Him?”

App – Life is heavy, and it is only when you recognize Him to be your “Mighty God” will you turn to Him to help you carry it. This is the substance of faith. And He would ask the same question of you and me, “Where is your faith?”

C. He is the prince who brings peace

  • The government will be on his shoulders and there will be no end to the increase of His government or of peace.
  • He is the Prince who brings peace; peace with God as we will see, but it also means peace on earth. Why?
  • Because He is the only One with the authority to bring peace and silence the enemies of God. As He spoke to the storm, so He will speak to the rulers of the earth.

Isaiah 40:23-31, It is He who reduces rulers to nothing, Who makes the judges of the earth meaningless. Scarcely have they been planted, scarcely have they been sown, scarcely has their stock taken root in the earth, but He many blows on them, and they whither, and the storm carries them away like stubble. To whom then will you liken Me that I would be his equal?” Says the Holy One. Lift up your eyes on high and see who has created these stars, the One who leads forth their host by number, He calls them each by name; and because of the greatness of His might and strength of His power, not one of them is missing.

So why do you say, O Jacob, and assert, O Israel, “My way is hidden from the Lord, and the justice due to me escape the notice of my God”? Do you not know? Have you not heard? The Everlasting God, the Lord, the Creator of the ends of the earth does not become weary or tired. His understanding is inscrutable. He gives strength to the weary, and to him who lacks might, He increases power.

Though youths grow weary and tired, and vigorous young men stumble badly, yet those who wait for the Lord will gain new strength; they will mount up with wings like eagles, they will run and not get tired, they will walk and not faint.

  • True peace comes when people are right with God.

Colossians 1:19-20, For it was the Father’s good pleasure for all the fullness to dwell in Him, and through Him to reconcile all things to Himself, having made peace through the blood of His cross.

John 14:27, “My peace I leave with you, my peace I give you. Not as the world gives do I give to you. Do not let your heart be troubled, nor let your heart be fearful.”

App –He is the One seeking you, He knocks on the door of your heart, you open the door of your heart and let Him into your life.

Help is on the Way
Isaiah 9:1-7
March 22-23, 2025

Isaiah, the theme of Isaiah and all of the prophets is revival. The people of Israel have wandered away from God. They've gone after the gods of the world that appealed to their flesh. That's why they went after them, because they appealed to their flesh. God knew that this would be disaster. It's true. Anybody who's done the world thing will tell you, this does not end well. It ends in disaster. In fact, there's a lot of people who can add their own testimony in this very room, "Yes, I know I did the world thing. It was disaster." That's what God knows.

He sends His prophet over and over to call His people, "I love you. This is going to end disastrously for you. Come back, come back to revival and you'll find blessings beyond words." We're at the point here where He's warning them of impending disaster. He says, "If you will not believe--" God is promising help to you. God is promising to be with you in that storm. If you will not be believe, you will not stand. If you will believe, if you would honor God in the storm, God will be a sanctuary for you. He will be a place of safety in the storm. For God was warning them that there was a great storm, and we know what it was.

It was the army of Assyria, which was one of the cruelest, most feared empires of the world that was arising on the scene, and God was warning them of this impending disaster. It's times like that, when you know that there is storm clouds on the horizon. When life's got troubles, you need a rock to stand on. You need a rock to believe that God is a firm foundation and a shelter in the storm. God can be both. It's interesting. He can be a rock of salvation on which you can stand when everything that can be will be shaken, or He can be a rock of offense over which many people stumble, but He is both of those things.

He is saying, if you will believe, God will be a sanctuary for you, God will be a refuge in the storm. Notice, it's a theme of the Scriptures, Hebrews 12, where He says, "Yet once more," He says, speaking of the latter days, "Yet once more, I will shake not only in earth, but also the heavens so that those things which cannot be shaken may remain." When you stand on a rock, you are standing on a firm foundation. When everything else is shaken in this world, your faith will stand when you're standing on the rock of Jesus Christ.

Now, in the chapter before this, He said it this way, Isaiah 8, He said, "It is the Lord of hosts whom you should regard as holy, and then He shall become a sanctuary to you. To both houses of Israel, He will be a stone to strike and a rock to stumble over." They were stumbling over the Lord, they were stumbling over that call to revival. The backstory to this is that the king at the time was this King Ahaz. He was not a good king at all. It says that the king of Israel there in the north had aligned with Aram, and that they had conspired to come and defeat Judah there in the south.

Isaiah was told of the Lord, "Go and speak to Ahaz and tell him, do not be concerned about these two smoldering firebrands. God will end this. God will save. God will rescue. If you will believe, you will stand. If you will not believe, you will not stand." He will not believe. In fact, interestingly, he even said to him, "Ahaz, you can ask God for any sign that you want, that God will prove Himself to you. Ask for any sign that you want. Make it as high as heaven or as deep as shield. God will do it because God is surely going to do what He promises." Amen.

Ahaz says, "No, I won't ask for a sign. I won't test the Lord." God said to him through Isaiah, you test the patience of God in this, and God himself will give you a sign. Then he said that famous prophecy, a maiden, a virgin, will be with child and his name will be called Emmanuel. The famous Scripture of course that we read every Christmas. That's the backstory, he would not believe.

Therefore they would not stand on that rock. They would not come back to revival. He says, "Therefore, Assyria will come like a great flood. They've rejected the gently flowing waters of Shiloh." In Israel, there was the pool of Shiloh, the pool of Shalom. There they would find fresh water. They've rejected the fresh waters of Shiloh, of the Lord, and so a great flood will come upon them. The flood of Assyria will come.

Interestingly, even as God is warning them of impending disaster, storm's arising. He holds out hope to them. It's amazing. God, even though He's warning them of great troubles, He will not relent in giving them hope and help. Help is on the way. Look at the contrast between the last verses of chapter 8 and the first verse of chapter 9. Notice the last verse of chapter 8, "They will pass through the land hard-pressed, famished. When they're hungry, they will be enraged. They curse their God, and they'll curse their king. They will look to the earth and behold, there'll be distress in darkness, gloom of anguish. They'll be driven away into darkness."

Chapter 9:1, "There will be no more gloom." Here's that hope. You'll recognize chapter 9. Chapter 9 is one of the most famous chapters in the Bible. You'll recognize it because we read it almost every Christmas. At some point, you get a Christmas card with Isaiah 9 on it. You'll recognize it. The context to it is so important to understand, here, impending disaster. In the midst of the storm, He holds out this hope, "There will be no more gloom for her who was in anguish. In earlier times, He treated the land of Zebulun and the land of Naphtali with contempt." That's the area of Galilee. "Later on, He will make it glorious, by the way of the sea, on the other side of the Jordan, Galilee of the Gentiles."

Chapter 9 is famous, and it's meant to be applied personally. There's storms arising today. There are conditions happening in the world that are very worrisome and concerning. You've read in the news recently, the war between Israel and Hamas has restarted. Israel is finding themselves in a very difficult circumstance. Russia, Ukraine still fighting. China's heavy hand growing as it exerts it will over the world. Iran is one step away from a nuclear weapon. On and on, the dollar is weakening, gold is rising. There are storm clouds on the horizon.

You're probably wondering, "Where are you going with this, pastor? This is depressing." Now, here's the point. Yes, the world is very much facing great storms, but they were facing storms in those day and that day, and God always holds out and hope. Even when the world is broken in evil, even when there's great in darkness, God is always holding out hope of a revival. Darkness will get darker, but light will get lighter in the latter days. We are seeing right now in these days that darkness is getting darker, but light is going to get lighter. There still will be a revival in the latter days. Amen. Amen. Amen.

When Isaiah wrote Isaiah 9, it was a dark time in the nation of Israel. At the darkest hour, God gave the greatest promise. There's no question that this chapter holds the greatest promise known to man, that God will send an answer, that help is on the way. God's answer is His Son. Here in this chapter are the famous words, "unto us a child is born. Unto us a Son is given."

The promises, the hope, and the help are found in His name, and His name shall be called. He says, "Unto us a Son is given." God doesn't stand by and just watch as people destroy their lives. God does something about it. God is on the move. God is still on the move. God is still doing something about broken lives today. The answer, the hope, and the help is found in that great name.

Let's read Isaiah 9. We'll just read the first seven verses, and of course, we'll look at the other verses around it at our Wednesday Verse-By-Verse, Chapter-By-Chapter Service. Chapter 9:1, "There will be no more gloom for her who was in anguish. In earlier times, He treated the land of Zebulun and the land of Naphtali with contempt." Again, that's the area to the far north, right around the Sea of Galilee. This is the prophecy. "Later on," that area of Galilee, He will make it glorious, by the way of the sea, on the other side of the Jordan Galilee of the Gentiles. How will He make it glorious? He will make it glorious because the Son of the Living God will establish His ministry there. Right in that place where there was darkness and gloom of anguish, that's where the light is going to shine greatest when the Messiah comes in the latter days. That's what he means.

I. Keep Watching and Waiting

Notice verse 2, "For the people who walk in darkness, will see a great light. Those who live in a dark land, light will shine on them." Jesus says, "I am the light of the world. You'll multiply the nation, you'll increase their gladness, and they will be glad in your presence for He will be called Emmanuel, God is with us. As men rejoice when they divide the spoil for you'll break the yoke of their burden. You'll break the staff on their shoulders. You'll break the rod of their oppressor like at the battle of Midian. For every boot of the booted warrior in the battle tumult, a cloak rolled in blood will be from burning, fuel for the fire.

For a child will be born to us." Here it is. "A son will be given to us and the government will rest on His shoulders." What does this mean? We will look and understand what it means. "His name shall be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Eternal Father, and Prince of Peace. There will be no end to the increase of his government and there will be no end to peace on the throne of David and over his kingdom to establish it and uphold it with justice and righteousness from then on and forevermore for the zeal of the Lord of hosts will accomplish this."

I love that last phrase, the zeal of the Lord of hosts will accomplish this. What great verses for us to understand and to read and to apply, starting with this, he's holding out this hope. In the midst of the darkest hour, He holds out hope. Help is on the way. I will send an answer. When God gives a promise like that, He means for you to keep watching and waiting. Keep watching and waiting. The people who walk in darkness will see a great light. Keep watching, keep waiting. Darkness, if you've ever been through a dark time, it's suppressive to the soul when you live in darkness.

I remember the first time that I went to Russia back in a few years ago. When you travel a long distance, you often wake up in the middle of the night. I woke up at 3:00 in the morning, and I looked out from our hotel room. You could look out over the city, and you could just feel oppression. If you ever just felt darkness and oppression and just await a burden of oppression and darkness. If you've ever been through a dark time, you know it's a very oppressive time on the soul. It's times like that He says, " I give you hope. I give you help. Help is on the way. Keep watching, keep waiting." See, this is faith.

A. A promise brings hope to a soul in anguish

When God gives you a promise, He means for you to believe in that promise. If you believe in that promise, you'll watch and you'll wait for God will give an answer. Help is on the way. See, a promise like that, when God gives a promise like that, it brings hope to the soul that is in anguish. If you've ever been through anguish, you know that what you need you need an answer. You need something to hold on to. I believe in the help of God. I have seen the help of God. I have been in many, many, many difficulties, and I have seen the help of God over and over and over. I know my God, and I know that He always has answered my need. He's always been my help.

When you believe, you'll watch and you'll wait. We need hope. We need to believe that God is our help and that help is on the way. Do you believe? If you believe, you'll watch, you'll wait. There are troubles personally. There are troubles in the world. History is changing before our eyes. People are weary and tired. When you read biblical prophecy, you know that the troubles of the world will only grow in greater intensity as we get near the end of the age. One thing is certain, that when you know that help is on the way, you yearn for it, you look for it. You do not give up. You watch and you wait because you know that God is sure to His promises.

In Job 19, here in the midst of Job's suffering, his friends are accusing him and he is going through, it seems like such a long enduring time of suffering. Then in the midst of that book, he gives us some of the greatest words of the Old Testament, for He holds out this, He says this. Job 19, "For this I know. I know that my Redeemer lives, and I know that He shall stand all at last on the earth. Then even after my skin is destroyed, this, I know, that in my flesh, I shall see God whom I shall see for myself and my eyes shall behold and not another. Oh, how my heart yearns within me.

B. Rejoice in the soul when God sends help

I know in whom I have believed. I know my Redeemer lives, and at last, He will stand on the earth and I will see Him with my own eyes. That's the hope. Then notice in chapter 9 when he says, and when God sends hope, and when God sends help, they will rejoice. Rejoice in the Lord when God sends help. In other words, when you cry out and God answers, then rejoice in the Lord and give Him praise for God did it. God did that. God deserves the praise and the glory.

I tell you, I remember there was a time in my life when I needed God to answer. I was in a very, very difficult-- This was back in the days when I was in the business world, and I needed God to do a great miracle. I prayed. I believed. In fact, I fasted. I did a Daniel Fast because I didn't know how soon God would answer, but I always believed somehow, someway God would help. God would send an answer. I waited and I prayed and I waited and I prayed and I fasted again.

I did the Daniel Fast, which means I fasted all junk food and sugar and Doritos and Ding Dongs, none of that. None for me. Only healthy food. That was my Daniel Fast to remind me to pray and to watch and to wait for God to save. I did that for 18 months, and then God saved. God did a great wondrous miracle. I tell you what, I was so relieved, and I wanted to give God glory. God, you did that. He deserves the praise. He deserves the glory. God did that. Amen.

He says, in the land of Naphtali and Zebulun, that area, that was the worst hit. When Assyria did find and come, that was the area that was worst. They took the brunt of it. He says, but that's where I will bring the glory. He says, God will make that place glorious. That's found in Matthew 4:13-14. "Leaving Nazareth, he came and settled in Capernaum, which is by the sea in the region of Zebulun and Naphtali to fulfill what was spoken through Isaiah and the prophet." God did most of His miracles there in the land of Zebulun and Naphtali, Galilee of the Gentiles. Great crowds came to hear Him preach and to teach there in the north.

The miracles that He did, God fulfilled His promise by doing that, which was glorious. When God fulfills His promise, you rejoice, you give Him all the glory for what He did. It's like in Psalm 126:1-3, it says, "When the Lord brought back the captive ones of Zion." This is after the Babylonians had destroyed, and they were exiled to Babylon. They returned one day. "When the Lord brought back the captive ones of Zion, we were like those who dream." He says, "Our mouth was filled with laughter. God did it. God saved us. God helped us.

Our mouth was filled with laughter. Our tongue was filled with joyful shouting. Then they said among the nations, they said, look at that. The Lord has done great things for them. Look what God did. They said, the Lord has done great things for us and we are glad. In fact, there was a wonderful worship song we to sing in the church. So simple, so beautiful, and we are glad, so very glad when God has done that for us. When they said, look what God did, they said, God did do that for us and we are glad. Has God done anything wondrously wonderful for you. God is worthy. Amen.

II. God’s Help is Found in His Name

He said, here's my hope. Here is the help. Help is on the way. It's all found starting in verse 6. For a child will be born to us, a Son will be given to us and the government will rest on His shoulders and His name will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Eternal Father, Prince of Peace. There will be no end to the increase of His government or at peace. He will sit on the throne of David and over His kingdom. God's help is found in His name. That's what He means. He will be called all of these wondrous names. His name shall be called God's answer is found in His name. How powerful is His name?

Many in the world are uncomfortable saying the name Jesus. It makes them uncomfortable. Some people, therefore they use His name like a cuss word. Do you know what I mean? In the world, they'll say like this, "Jesus Christ" You know what I'm saying? Like a customer, "Jesus Christ" Why? They want to reduce the power of His name. That's the only way they can handle saying that powerful name. Back in the workday world when I was in the restaurant business and such, whenever in the back room, somebody would say that phrase, "Jesus Christ," I figured, "They brought it up, so I get to bring it up too."

Instead of confronting or instead of criticizing, I would say, "That name you're using there, that's a powerful name. Do you know that the Bible says that every knee will bow and every tongue will confess that great name." They always go, "Oh, why do you have to be so spiritual." "You brought it up." Amen.

There is no greater name. Philippians 2:9-11, "God has bestowed on Him the name which is above every other name. That at the name of Jesus, every knee will bow of those who are in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and that every tongue will confess that Jesus Christ is Lord to the glory of God the Father." There is no greater name. The name above all names. He's the King of kings and Lord of lords. At that great name, God sends help. Help is on the way. Help is found in his name.

By the way, it says, the government will rest on His shoulders. What does it mean? It means that in the latter days, there will be one who rules over all the nations of the world. There will be a one world-government and that government will rest on His shoulders. There will be one king and leader over all nations. That one king and one leader over all nations will not be Russian, will not be Chinese, will not be Arab. He'll be Jewish. We know His name. His name is Yeshua HaMashiach, Jesus the Messiah. We know His name. The government will rest on His shoulders. Amen. Amen.

A. He is Wonderful Counselor

He will be wonderful counselor. It's meant to be personal. A Son is given to you and He will be your wonderful counselor. It's meant to be applied, meant to be lived. God does wonderful things. He means God will do wondrous things. Oh, people could only believe what God would do in their lives. See, people, they have no idea what God would do if they would only believe. 1 Corinthians 2:9, for example, "Things which no eye has seen, ear has not heard, which have not even entered the heart of man. All that God has prepared for those who love Him." You have no idea.

Ephesians 3:20, "Now unto Him, who is able to do exceedingly abundantly beyond all that we could ask or even think." People have no idea what God could do if you would only believe. Isaiah says, "If you would believe, you'll stand." He is wondrous in counsel. Filled with wisdom. When we were doing the proverbs, I would often say, "How many people want more wisdom?" Almost everybody would raise your hand. I want more wisdom. He says, help is given in His name and He will be to you a counsel that is wonderful, wondrous counsel filled with wisdom for your life.

People make so many messes of their lives today. You know why people make messes of their lives? Because they're walking according to their own wisdom. I'll tell you, that is how people get themselves into so much trouble. I can't tell you how many times people have got themselves into trouble and then you want to speak into that and they say, "Look, I just got to figure this thing out on my own." My answer is always the same, "No, you figuring things out on your own is how you got into this trouble.

Now what you need is a wonderful counselor whose wisdom is greater than yours who can get you out of this trouble." That's what we need. That is the light that shines in the darkness. You're right. See, when a person opens their eyes and sees that the wisdom of God is high, you're right, it's good, is wondrous. You are right, God. That is what I need in my life. You are right. In Hebrew, the word counselor means to stand alongside. You can imagine the help a person would have if God were whispering alongside. It's like Isaiah 30:21, "Your ears will hear a word behind you. This is the way, walk in this whenever you turn to the right or to the left."

Has anybody ever done something really, really dumb-- Don't raise your hand yet. Has anybody ever done something really, really dumb and you know that God told you not to do it before you did it? Now you can raise your hand. His counsel is only wonderful and helpful if you follow it. It's like Luke 6:47-48, "Everyone who comes, comes to me and hears my words, but then acts on them, puts them into life." See, it's not just hearing. It's taking hold and saying, "You're right, you're right. Your Word is high. Your Word is good. Your Word is wonderful. You're right."

He says, everyone who acts on my words, I will show you who he's like, he's like a man building a house. He builds his life. He dug deep. He laid a foundation on a rock. Then when the flood occurred, when troubles of life come, and the torrent burst against that house, it could not shake it because it was well-built. You want to build your life well? You want to build your life on a rock? You want to build your life so that it stands firm in the storm of troubles? Then take that wonderful counsel and live it.

B. He is Mighty God

Then He says, "Know this, His name will be called Wonderful Counselor, and His name will be called Mighty God." Is there anything clearer? Jesus is the Almighty God in the flesh, power over all things. He turned water into wine, He healed lepers, He raised the dead, He had authority over demons, He calmed the wind and the storm at the word of his command. That's Luke 8:25.

After He was in the sea with the disciples and the storm was threatening to overtake the boat, He stood and He rebuked the wind and the sea. He said to them, "Where is your faith?" They were fearful and amazed, and they said to another, "Who is this then that He even commands the wind and the sea, and they obey Him? "He is Mighty God.

C. He is the prince who brings peace

Life is hard. Life is filled with difficulties and troubles, but when you know Him as your Mighty God and turn to Him for help, that is the very substance of faith. I know in whom I have believed. I know my God, and I know how He moves. I know that my God is able, for He is Mighty God. I love the phrase the Almighty God. He asked the same question to you and to me. Where is your faith? Where is your faith then? He wants you to believe. I have given you help. Help is on the way. He's in the name of my Son, for He is Mighty God, and his name shall be called Eternal Father and Prince of Peace. He is the Prince who brings peace. The government will rest on His shoulders and He will bring peace.

It's very interesting. A few times ago when I was in Israel, Pastor Matthew and I were together with some other pastors, and we had an opportunity to go to the home of a rabbi for dinner, Sabbath dinner. We thought, "Oh, what a great opportunity to be in the home of a Jew on a Sabbath and see how they do dinner." By the way, it was an amazing experience. You could learn a lot. I was absolutely impressed.

First of all, this is every week, Friday night. Sabbath starts Friday night. Always a big thing. After they bless the food and all, they share fellowship around the meal, which we shared with them. Then after the meal, the father got up and went to the children. They do this every week. The father got up and he went to the oldest child and he put his hands on the boy's head and he prayed over that boy a prayer of great blessing. Then when he finished, he went to the next one. The wife came and joined him. She put her hands on the boy and she prayed. Then they both went down, and they both prayed over every one of the children, every Sabbath.

By the way, it was a great blessing. Can you imagine that every week? Side note, when we were there also, we had an opportunity to hear from an Arab Palestinian journalist who was a supporter of Israel. I'll get back to the Sabbath dinner just in a minute. I'm off. I promise I'll get back on track. The Arab Palestinian journalist said, "I can tell you the root cause of this conflict. I can tell you what the root cause is." We're all ears. "What is it?"

"It's what happens in the home. In the home of Jewish families, they pray blessings over their children. In the home of Arab Palestinian families, they curse Jews, and they tell their children that the greatest honor they'll ever have is to grow up and to kill a Jew." He said, "Until you can fix what going on in the home, you'll never fix what's going on in the world." Amen. You've going to fix what's going on in the home. Amen.

Back to this Jewish home, blessings, blessings. Anyway, afterward, we were just sitting around talking and one of the pastors says to this Jewish rabbi, "So you don't believe Jesus is the Messiah?" "No, I don't." "Why not?" "Because the Scripture says that the Messiah will defeat the enemies of Israel. He will defeat the armies of the enemies. Jesus did not do this." He said, "I know you Christians believe that Jesus will come at the end of the age."

My turn. Question. Isaiah 53. Are you familiar with Isaiah 53? We'll get there in our study. It's one of the most amazing prophecies or Scripture that describes the suffering of the Messiah, that the Messiah, by His scourgings, we are healed. He will be whipped, He'll be scourged, He'll be killed, and the sins of us all will fall on Him. Question. I said, "You believe the Messiah will come at the end of the age?" I believe, yes. When He comes at the end of the age, will He then fulfill Isaiah 53? I don't know. I don't know the answer to that question. We do.

He fulfilled Isaiah 53 when He came in the flesh. When a Son was born, He was born in the flesh, meant to take the sins of the world upon the cross and pay the penalty for us all to be help and salvation to sinners all over the world. When He comes at the end of the age, He will come as King of kings and Lord of lords and the government will rest on His shoulders and there will be no end of His government and there will be no end of peace for He will then defeat the enemies of Israel and He will rule over the nations of the world. Oh Lord Jesus, come quickly. Amen. Amen.

Prince of Peace, because He resolves the conflicts. Peace, not only of the nations, but of people. He is your Prince of Peace. He will give you a peace. There is a great conflict in man, a great internal conflict. How can sinners have hope? How can sinners have the opportunity to be reconciled to a holy, righteous God? How can a sinner have his sins forgiven? How can we be victorious over this death that reigns in our lives? There is a great conflict, but Jesus comes to end that conflict. He has come to reconcile the world to God that sinners can find peace with God.

He's made a way for sinners to find peace with God, for He Himself took the penalty of their sin on Himself when He died on the cross, and He gave to them reconciliation and newness of life so that sinners can now enter into the glory. Sinners can now enter into the wondrous presence of the Almighty God. He has ended this conflict. He has made a way for you to have peace, a peace that surpasses understanding, peace that resides over all your sin, for He has taken your sin as far as the east is from the West. He's removed our transgressions from us. Amen. Amen. Amen.

He is the Prince who will speak power over the nations of the world. He is Almighty God and He will speak power. Isaiah 40, we'll get to Isaiah 40, but I want to read some of it. "It is He who reduces rulers to nothing." I love this. I love Isaiah 40. "It is He who reduces rulers to nothing. It is He who makes judges of the earth meaningless. Scarcely have they been planted, scarcely have they been sown, scarcely, has their stem taken root in the earth, and He merely blows on them and they wither and the storm carries them away like stubble. To whom then will you liken Me that I should be his equal?" Says the Holy One.

"Lift up your eyes. Lift up your eyes on high and see who created these stars, the One who leads forth their host by number and He calls them each by name, and because of the greatness of His might and the strength of His power, not one of them is missing. Why do you say then, Oh, Jacob, why do you assert Oh, Israel, why do you say, Oh, my way is hidden from the Lord, and the justice due to me escaped the notice of my God? Do you not know? Have you not heard? The everlasting God, the Lord, the creator of the ends of the earth does not become weary or tired?

His understanding is inscrutable. It is He who gives strength to the weary and to Him who lacks might He increases power. Though youth grow weary and tired and vigorous young men stumble badly, yet those who wait for the Lord will gain new strength. They will mount up with wings like eagles. They will run and not get tired, and they will walk and not faint." He is our God, and help is on the way. It is He who rules over the nations of the world. He is the prince of peace, and He's the one who reconciles sinners for He's defeated death. He is the Almighty. He is the Wonderful Counselor. He's our Eternal Father.

Father, we love you and thank you, for all that you've done is wonderful. All that you've done is marvelous. Help is on the way you promised. God, we believe in that. We take hold of that great promise. We believe help is on the way. Church, if you believe that God is your help, that God is your King, Mighty God, Wonderful Counselor, your Prince of Peace, if you would believe, you'll stand. If you believe, He will pour out upon you the blessings of that great name.

There is no other name under heaven by which men must be saved. Would you trust in that name for your life unto you a Son is given for you to receive this hope, this help that I have sent to you. Will you believe? Will you receive? I gave you my Son. Church, tell me what to say to the Lord today. I believe. I believe. You have promised that help is on the way, and it's all found in that glorious name. I believe, I receive. God, establish my life on that rock in Jesus name.

Would you raise your hand as a way of saying that to the Lord today? I believe I will build my life on that rock. I know God that you are my Almighty God, my Wonderful Counselor, my Prince of Peace. I will build my life on this. We love you and honor you for it all. In Jesus powerful name, and everyone said? Amen.

Isaiah 9:1-7    NASB

9 1But there will be no more gloom for her who was in anguish. In earlier times He treated the land of Zebulun and the land of Naphtali with contempt, but later on He will make it glorious, by the way of the sea, on the other side of the Jordan, Galilee of the Gentiles.

2 The people who walk in darkness
Will see a great light;
Those who live in a dark land,
The light will shine on them.
You will multiply the nation,
You will increase their joy;
They will rejoice in Your presence
As with the joy of harvest,
As people rejoice when they divide the spoils.
For You will break the yoke of their burden and the staff on their shoulders,
The rod of their oppressor, as at the battle of Midian.
For every boot of the marching warrior in the roar of battle,
And cloak rolled in blood, will be for burning, fuel for the fire.
For a Child will be born to us, a Son will be given to us;
And the government will rest on His shoulders;
And His name will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God,
Eternal Father, Prince of Peace.
There will be no end to the increase of His government or of peace
On the throne of David and over his kingdom,
To establish it and to uphold it with justice and righteousness
From then on and forevermore.
The zeal of the Lord of armies will accomplish this.

“Si no crees, no permanecerás”.

I. Sigue observando y esperando
Sigue observando y esperando.

Juan 14:27, “Mi paz os dejo, mi paz os doy. Yo no os doy como el mundo da. No se turbe tu corazón, ni tenga temor tu corazón”.

Aplicación: Él es el que te busca, Él llama a la puerta de tu corazón, tu abres la puerta de tu corazón y lo dejas entrar en tu vida.
