Things to Come, Part 2
Matthew 24:15-28
August 2-3, 2025

Introduction

1. The end of the world is a topic that has raised many questions down through the ages.
2. The good news is, God wants us to know about the end times.
3. We know this is true because He gave us His Word, the Bible, which gives us details about the end times so that we may know the truth about the last days and be prepared for its arrival.
4. Near the end of June, we studied the first part of a series called Things to Come based on the teachings of Jesus Christ from Matthew 24:1-14.
5. During the second part of the series, we will focus on two questions which arise from Jesus’ teachings in Matthew 24:15-28, specifically:
a. Who is the Antichrist?
b. Will the Church go through the Great Tribulation?
6. As I shared in June, it is my prayer that our study will strengthen our faith, increase our love, and motivate us to be prepared for the return of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.

Matthew 24:15-28

Context
1. Matthew 24-25 is called the Olivet Discourse because Jesus was sitting on the Mount of Olives, just east of Jerusalem, when He taught His disciples.
2. This message actually began in Jerusalem in Matthew 23. Jesus had just finished rebuking the Jewish leaders for their hypocrisy and their rejection of Him.

Matthew 23:37-39, “Jerusalem, Jerusalem, who kills the prophets and stones those who are sent to her! How often I wanted to gather your children together, the way a hen gathers her chicks under her wings, and you were unwilling. Behold, your house is being left to you desolate! For I say to you, from now on you will not see Me until you say, ‘Blessed is He who comes in the name of the Lord!’”

3. Jesus’ words were a prophetic judgment against Jerusalem and the Temple, which must have shocked the Jewish leaders, the crowds, and His disciples because Herod’s Temple inspired awe in all who looked upon it.
4. The disciples, who were still processing what Jesus had said when they pointed out to Him the magnificence of Herod’s Temple as they were leaving the temple grounds.
5. Their comments prompted Jesus to say, “Do you not see all these things? Truly I say to you, not one stone here will be left upon another, which will not be torn down.” (2)
6. Jesus’ prophecy came to pass exactly as He said in A.D. 70 when the Roman General Titus destroyed Jerusalem and the soldiers removed every ounce of gold from the Temple by setting it on fire and overturning every stone.
7. Again, shocked by what they had heard, we are told in Mark 13:3 that Peter, James, John, and Andrew privately asked Jesus two questions:
a. When will the Temple be destroyed?
b. What will be the sign of Your coming at the of the end of the age?
8. Basically, they were wondering, “If Jerusalem and the Temple were destroyed, then how will there be a nation for Messiah to rule?”
9. Again, the words of Jesus are important for us to understand the heart of our God and Savior.

Matthew 24:25, Behold, I have told you in advance.

Transition – Since Jesus told us in advance, we need to make sure we understand the things to come. Let’s begin with the first question. . .

I. Who is the Antichrist?

• In verses 15-16, 21, Jesus said, “Therefore when you see the ABOMINATION OF DESOLATION which was spoken of through Daniel the prophet, standing in the holy place (let the reader understand), then those who are in Judea must flee to the mountains. . . For then there will be a great tribulation, such as has not occurred since the beginning of the world until now, nor ever will.”
• The Bible declares that there will be a seven-year period called the Great Tribulation, also known as The Time of Jacobs’s Trouble, The Day of the Lord, and Daniel’s 70th Week from Daniel 9:24-27.
• As I mentioned in Part I, God has two primary purposes for the Great Tribulation period:
o First, the Great Tribulation will focus on Israel, to refine and prepare Israel for the coming of their King; that they may enter into and enjoy His Millennial Kingdom.
o Second, the Great Tribulation will be universal in scope, a divine judgment upon creation, the outpouring of God’s wrath upon unbelieving humanity and every rebellious nation.
• Through these judgments, God’s heart is that people will turn from their wickedness and repent in preparation for the return of the Messiah.
• Now, the “abomination of desolation” that Jesus mentioned is based on the prophecy given in Daniel 9:24-27.

Daniel 9:24-27, Seventy weeks have been decreed for your people and your holy city, to finish the transgression, to make an end of sin, to make atonement for iniquity, to bring in everlasting righteousness, to seal up vision and prophecy and to anoint the most holy place. So you are to know and discern that from the issuing of a decree to restore and rebuild Jerusalem until Messiah the Prince
there will be seven weeks and sixty-two weeks; it will be built again, with plaza and moat, even in times of distress. Then after the sixty-two weeks the Messiah will be cut off and have nothing, and the people of the prince who is to come will destroy the city and the sanctuary. And its end will come with a flood; even to the end there will be war; desolations are determined. And he will make a firm covenant with the many for one week, but in the middle of the week he will put a stop to sacrifice and grain offering; and on the wing of abominations will come one who makes desolate, even until a complete destruction, one that is decreed, is poured out on the one who makes desolate.
• In Daniel 9, we’re told that Daniel had been in prayer and fasting after he read the words of the prophet Jeremiah regarding Israel’s exile in Babylon.

Jeremiah 25:11, This whole land will be a desolation and a horror, and these nations will serve the king of Babylon seventy years.

• Why was the land of Israel a desolation and a horror for seventy years? Because Israel had failed to give the land a Sabbath rest; meaning they plowed the fields, sowed seed, and harvested the land every seventh year when they should have given it rest.

Leviticus 25:2-4, Speak to the sons of Israel and say to them, “When you come into the land which I shall give you, then the land shall have a sabbath to the Lord. Six years you shall sow your field, and six years you shall prune your vineyard and gather in its crop, but during the seventh year the land shall have a sabbath rest, a sabbath to the Lord; you shall not sow your field nor prune your vineyard.”

• What were the consequences for failing to give the land a Sabbath rest? Exile.

Leviticus 26:33-35, You, however, I will scatter among the nations and will draw out a sword after you, as your land becomes desolate and your cities become waste. Then the land will enjoy its sabbaths all the days of the desolation, while you are in your enemies’ land; then the land will rest and enjoy its sabbaths. All the days of its desolation it will observe the rest which it did not observe on your sabbaths, while you were living on it.

• How many times did Israel fail to give the land a Sabbath rest?
o Seventy times Israel failed to give the land a Sabbath rest!
o 70 Sabbath rests x 7 years = 490 years

APPL – Interesting side note: Peter asked Jesus, “Lord, how often shall my brother sin against me and I forgive him? Up to seven times?” What was Jesus’ reply?

Matthew 18:22, Jesus said to him, “I do not say to you, up to seven times, but up to seventy times seven.”

• So, Daniel was confessing Israel’s sin because they had failed to keep God’s Word and were suffering the consequences, an exile in Babylon for seventy years.
• During that time of prayer and fasting, God sent the angel Gabriel to Daniel to share a prophetic word about Israel’s future which includes another “seventy sevens.” (Daniel 9:20)
• In Daniel 9:24-27, the “seventy sevens” or “seventy weeks,” refers to 70 periods of seven years each; each week equals seven years.
• The “seventy weeks” are divided into three parts:
o During the first seven weeks (49 years), the city of Jerusalem will be rebuilt and Temple worship will be restored.

2 Chronicles 36:22-23, Now in the first year of Cyrus king of Persia—in order to fulfill the word of the Lord by the mouth of Jeremiah—the Lord stirred up the spirit of Cyrus king of Persia, so that he sent a proclamation throughout his kingdom, and also put it in writing, saying, “Thus says Cyrus king of Persia, ‘The Lord, the God of heaven, has given me all the kingdoms of the earth, and He has appointed me to build Him a house in Jerusalem, which is in Judah. Whoever there is among you of all His people, may the Lord his God be with him, and let him go up!’”

o After sixty-two weeks (434 years), “Messiah the Prince” will come to Jerusalem but “will be cut off.” This prophecy was fulfilled to the very day when Jesus triumphantly entered Jerusalem on Palm Sunday and was crucified for the sins of the world on Good Friday.

Luke 19:41, 44, When He approached Jerusalem, He saw the city and wept over it, saying, “If you had known in this day, even you, the things which make for peace! But now they have been hidden from your eyes. . . . because you did not recognize the time of your visitation.”

o Then a “prince” will come (not to be confused with “Messiah the Prince”) for one week (7 years). Who is this prince? He goes by other names such as the “Abomination of Desolation,” “The Beast,” and the “Antichrist.”

Transition – Notice what the Antichrist will do during the first half of the seventieth week. . .
A. The Antichrist will make a peace treaty with Israel
1. According to Daniel 9:27, the prince “will make a firm covenant with the many,” meaning Israel.
2. The Antichrist will arise in times of great economic and political turmoil.
3. Israel’s enemies will become more powerful and tensions in the Middle East will rise to levels never seen before with Israel as the focal point (Ezekiel 38-39).
4. Then Antichrist will come on the world scene as a respected world leader and be revered as a diplomatic genius.
a. For he will attempt and succeed where others have tried and failed.

Daniel 8:23-25, A king will arise, insolent and skilled in intrigue. His power will be mighty, but not by his own power, and he will destroy to an extraordinary degree and prosper and perform his will; he will destroy mighty men and the holy people. And through his shrewdness he will cause deceit to succeed by his influence; and he will magnify himself in his heart, and he will destroy many while they are at ease. He will even oppose the Prince of princes, but he will be broken without human agency.

b. He will successfully negotiate a peace treaty between Israel and the nations of the world.
c. Part of that covenant will include allowing Israel to rebuild the Temple in Jerusalem so that they may resume offering sacrifices.

ILLUS – Israel is preparing for the rebuilding of the Temple and the reestablishing of the sacrifices.

5. For the first half of the Great Tribulation, Israel will consider the Antichrist to be their great benefactor, like the rest of the world. Why? Because the Antichrist will be empowered by Satan to deceive.

2 Thessalonians 2:8-10, Then that lawless one will be revealed whom the Lord will slay with the breath of His mouth and bring to an end by the appearance of His coming; that is, the one whose coming is in accord with the activity of Satan, with all power and signs and false wonders, and with all the deception of wickedness for those who perish, because they did not receive the love of the truth so as to be saved.

Transition – But half-way through the Great Tribulation, the Antichrist will reveal his true colors. . .

B. The Antichrist will break his treaty with Israel
1. Daniel 9:27 continues, “… but in the middle of the week he will put a stop to sacrifice and grain offering; and on the wing of abominations will come one who makes desolate, even until a complete destruction, one that is decreed, is poured out on the one who makes desolate.”
2. The Antichrist will break the covenant of peace 3.5 years after it is signed.
3. He will establish a new world religion by setting himself up in the newly rebuilt Temple in Jerusalem as a god to be worshipped.

2 Thessalonians 2:3-4, Let no one in any way deceive you, for it will not come unless the apostasy comes first, and the man of lawlessness is revealed, the son of destruction, who opposes and exalts himself above every so-called god or object of worship, so that he takes his seat in the temple of God, displaying himself as being God.

a. In fact, according to Revelation 13:14-18, he will cause a living statue of himself to be put into the Temple.
b. His associate, the false prophet, will cause the whole earth to worship it.
c. Satan has always wanted the world to worship him, and in the middle of the Great Tribulation, the world will do just that, those who have taken the “mark of the beast.”
4. Israel will realize that their “benefactor” is their ultimate “persecutor” and respond with great anger against his desecration of the Temple.
5. So, the Antichrist will cause all the nations who were against Israel to rise up and attack Israel.
6. For the Jews living in Jerusalem, it will be a very perilous time. So, Jesus warns them to flee in Matthew 24:15-18, “(let the reader understand), then those who are in Judea must flee to the mountains. Whoever is on the housetop must not go down to get the things out that are in his house. Whoever is in the field must not turn back to get his cloak.”
7. Jesus said, “Unless those days had been cut short, no life would have been saved; but for the sake of the elect those days will be cut short.” (22)

Transition – When Jesus mentioned the “elect,” did He mean the Church? To answer this question, we will turn to our second question. . .

II. Will the Church Go Through the Great Tribulation?

• We have established that the Great Tribulation is the outpouring of God’s wrath upon unbelieving humanity and every rebellious nation. Notice how Jesus described it in Revelation 3:10:

Revelation 3:10, Because you have kept the word of My perseverance, I also will keep you from the hour of testing, that hour which is about to come upon the whole world, to test those who dwell on the earth.

• We have also seen that Israel is the focal point of the Great Tribulation, not the Church, for Daniel 9:24 states, “Seventy weeks have been decreed for your people and your holy city. . .”
• This means the “elect” spoken of by Jesus in Matthew 24:22, is not the Church because the Church will be raptured before the Great Tribulation begins.
• The “elect” in Matthew 24:22 are those who place their faith in Jesus Christ during the Great Tribulation.
• They are “Tribulation Saints” who will be comprised of Jews and Gentiles.
• These “elect” ones are the “sheep” who will be separated from the “goats” that Jesus spoke of in Matthew 25:31-46.
• Why is there a distinction? Because. . .

A. The Church is an object of God’s grace
1. The Great Tribulation that will come upon the world, is also called the “wrath of God.”
2. It is important to note that God’s wrath is not intended for the Church because the wrath that we deserved fell upon Jesus Christ when He died on the cross for our sins.

1 Thessalonians 5:9, For God has not destined us for wrath, but for obtaining salvation through our Lord Jesus Christ

3. How will the Church be saved from the wrath of God in those days?
a. Answer: The Church will be “raptured.”
b. The rapture is when the Church is “taken up” or “caught up” to meet the Lord “in the air.”

1 Thessalonians 4:16-17, For the Lord Himself will descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel and with the trumpet of God, and the dead in Christ will rise first. Then we who are alive and remain will be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air, and so we shall always be with the Lord.

Transition – Why do some people say that the Church will go through part or all of the Great Tribulation?
• It is important to note that all biblical scholars agree that the Church is not an object of God’s wrath; that the Church must be removed before it begins.
• “When” the wrath of God begins during the Great Tribulation is where the biblical scholars disagree.

B. God’s wrath begins with the first seal judgment
1. Revelation gives us a window into heaven prior to the start of the Great Tribulation.
2. The Apostle John was “caught up” into heaven and saw God the Father on throne.

Revelation 4:1-2, After these things I looked, and behold, a door standing open in heaven, and the first voice which I had heard, like the sound of a trumpet speaking with me, said, “Come up here, and I will show you what must take place after these things.” Immediately I was in the Spirit; and behold, a throne was standing in heaven, and One sitting on the throne.

3. Then in Revelation 5:1, John noticed a scroll sealed up with seven seals in God’s right hand.

Revelation 5:1, I saw in the right hand of Him who sat on the throne a book written inside and on the back, sealed up with seven seals.

4. A strong angel proclaimed with a loud voice, “Who is worthy to open the book and to break its seals?” (2)
5. At first, John wept because no one in heaven or on earth was found worthy to open the book or to look into it. (3-4)
6. But an elder told John, “Stop weeping; behold, the Lion that is from the tribe of Judah, the Root of David, has overcome so as to open the book and its seven seals.” (5)
7. Next, John describes a holy moment.

Revelation 5:6-7, And I saw between the throne (with the four living creatures) and the elders a Lamb standing, as if slain… And He came and took the book out of the right hand of Him who sat on the throne.

8. The four living creatures, the angels, and the elders all fell down before Him who sat upon the throne and the Lamb and worshipped. (9-14)
9. Take special note of what happens next in Revelation 6:1-2.

Revelation 6:1-2, Then I saw when the Lamb broke one of the seven seals, and I heard one of the four living creatures saying as with a voice of thunder, “Come.” I looked, and behold, a white horse, and he who sat on it had a bow; and a crown was given to him, and he went out conquering and to conquer.

APPL – What does all of this mean?
• First, it is God the Father who is on the throne. He is sovereign over the heavens and earth.
• Second, it is God the Father who holds the scroll with the seven seals. Therefore, He is the Author and Possessor of the scroll.
• Third, it is Jesus Christ who is worthy to take the scroll from Him who sits upon the throne.
• Fourth, it is also Jesus Christ who opens the first seal and when that seal is opened, the Antichrist is summoned.
o He rides a white horse because he is a deceiver.
o He carries a bow because he will make war against all who oppose him, especially Israel.
• So, when does the wrath of God begin? When Jesus opens the first seal and sends the Antichrist.
• This marks the beginning of the Great Tribulation and the outpouring of God’s wrath.
• It is for this reason that the Church must be raptured before the arrival of the Antichrist and the beginning of the Great Tribulation.
• Again, God has not destined the Church for His wrath but for His grace and love!

Conclusion

APPL – Jesus Christ is coming for His Church.
• Please do not be left behind.
• Now is the time to get ready by placing your faith in Jesus Christ so that you may escape the wrath of the Great Tribulation and the eternal wrath of God in the lake of fire.

John 3:16, For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish, but have eternal life.

• And for those who have placed their faith in Jesus Christ, who belong to the Church that will one day be raptured, I ask, “What kind of people must we be?”
• The words of the Apostle John say it best:

1 John 2:28, Now, little children, abide in Him, so that when He appears, we may have confidence and not shrink away from Him in shame at His coming.

Introducción

El fin del mundo es un tema que ha planteado muchas preguntas a lo largo de los siglos.
La buena noticia es que Dios quiere que sepamos sobre el fin de los tiempos.
Sabemos que esto es cierto porque Él nos dio Su Palabra, la Biblia, que nos da detalles sobre el fin de los tiempos para que podamos conocer la verdad sobre los últimos días y estar preparados para su llegada.
A finales de junio, estudiamos la primera parte de una serie llamada Cosas por venir basado en las enseñanzas de Jesucristo de Mateo 24:1-14.
Durante la segunda parte de la serie, nos centraremos en dos preguntas que surgen de las enseñanzas de Jesús en Mateo 24:15-28, específicamente:

a. ¿Quién es el Anticristo?
¿Pasará la Iglesia por la Gran Tribulación?

Como compartí en junio, es mi oración que nuestro estudio fortalezca nuestra fe, aumente nuestro amor y nos motive a estar preparados para el regreso de nuestro Señor y Salvador, Jesucristo.

Mateo 24:15-28

Contexto

Mateo 24-25 es llamado el Discurso del Monte de los Olivos porque Jesús estaba sentado en el Monte de los Olivos, al este de Jerusalén, cuando enseñó a sus discípulos.
Este mensaje en realidad comenzó en Jerusalén en Mateo 23. Jesús acababa de terminar de reprender a los líderes judíos por su hipocresía y su rechazo hacia Él.

37 »¡ Jerusalén, Jerusalén, la que mata a los profetas y apedrea a los que son enviados a ella ! ¡Cuántas veces quise juntar a tus hijos, como la gallina junta sus pollitos debajo de sus alas , y no quisiste! 38 Por tanto, la casa de ustedes se les deja desierta. 39 Porque les digo que desde ahora en adelante no me verán más hasta que digan: “Bendito Aquel que viene en el nombre del Señor”».

Las palabras de Jesús fueron un juicio profético contra Jerusalén y el Templo, que debe haber conmocionado a los líderes judíos, a las multitudes y a sus discípulos porque el Templo de Herodes inspiró asombro en todos los que lo miraron.
Los discípulos, que todavía estaban procesando lo que Jesús había dicho cuando le señalaron la magnificencia del Templo de Herodes cuando salían de los terrenos del templo.
Sus comentarios llevaron a Jesús a decir: “¿No ves todas estas cosas? De cierto os digo que aquí no quedará piedra sobre piedra que no sea derribada”.

Una vez más, conmocionados por lo que habían escuchado, se nos dice en Marcos 13:3 que Pedro, Santiago, Juan y Andrés le hicieron dos preguntas en privado a Jesús:
a. ¿Cuándo será destruido el Templo?
¿Cuál será la señal de Tu venida al final de la era?
Básicamente, se preguntaban: “Si Jerusalén y el Templo serán destruidos, ¿cómo habrá una nación para que gobierne el Mesías?”
Una vez más, las palabras de Jesús son importantes para que entendamos el corazón de nuestro Dios y Salvador.

Mateo 24:25, He aquí, os lo he dicho de antemano.

Transición: dado que Jesús nos lo dijo de antemano, debemos asegurarnos de comprender las cosas por venir. Comencemos con la primera pregunta.

¿Quién es el Anticristo?

En los versículos 15-16, 21, Jesús dijo: “Por tanto, cuando veáis la abominación desoladora de la que se habló por medio del profeta Daniel, que está en el lugar santo (entienda el lector), entonces los que están en Judea deben huir a los montes. . . Porque entonces habrá una gran tribulación, la cual no ha sucedido desde el principio del mundo hasta ahora, ni la habrá”.
La Biblia declara que habrá un período de siete años llamado la Gran Tribulación, también conocido como El Tiempo de la Angustia de Jacob, El Día del Señor y la Semana 70 de Daniel de Daniel 9:24-27.
Como mencioné en la Parte I, Dios tiene dos propósitos principales para el período de la Gran Tribulación:
- Primero, la Gran Tribulación se enfocará en Israel, para refinar y preparar a Israel para la venida de su Rey; para que puedan entrar y disfrutar de Su Reino Milenario.
- Segundo, la Gran Tribulación será de alcance universal, un juicio divino sobre la creación, el derramamiento de la ira de Dios sobre la humanidad incrédula y toda nación rebelde.
A través de estos juicios, el corazón de Dios es que las personas se conviertan de su maldad y se arrepientan en preparación para el regreso del Mesías.

27 Y él hará un pacto firme con muchos por una semana, pero a la mitad de la semana pondrá fin al sacrificio y a la ofrenda de cereal. Sobre el ala de abominaciones vendrá el desolador, hasta que una destrucción completa, la que está decretada, sea derramada sobre el desolador».

En Daniel 9, se nos dice que Daniel había estado en oración y ayuno después de leer las palabras del profeta Jeremías con respecto al exilio de Israel en Babilonia.

11 Toda esta tierra será desolación y horror, y estas naciones servirán setenta años al rey de Babilonia.

¿Por qué la tierra de Israel fue una desolación y un horror durante setenta años? Porque Israel no le había dado a la tierra un descanso sabático; es decir, araban los campos, sembraban semillas y cosechaban la tierra cada siete años, cuando deberían haberla dejado descansar.

Levítico 25:2-4 – Nueva Biblia de las Américas

2 «Habla a los israelitas, y diles: “Cuando entren a la tierra que Yo les daré, la tierra guardará reposo para el Señor. 3 Seis años sembrarás la tierra, seis años podarás tu viña y recogerás sus frutos, 4 pero el séptimo año la tierra tendrá completo descanso, un reposo para el Señor; no sembrarás tu campo ni podarás tu viña.

¿Cuáles fueron las consecuencias de no darle a la tierra un descanso sabático? Exilio.

Levítico 26:33-35, A ti, sin embargo, a ti dispersaré entre las naciones, y desenvainaré la espada tras ti, cuando tu tierra quede desolada y tus ciudades sean asoladas. Entonces la tierra disfrutará de sus días de reposo todos los días de la desolación, mientras tú estés en la tierra de tus enemigos; entonces la tierra descansará y disfrutará de sus días de reposo. Todos los días de su desolación guardará el reposo que no guardó en vuestros días de reposo, mientras vivíais en él.

¿Cuántas veces Israel no le dio a la tierra un descanso sabático?
- ¡Setenta veces Israel no le dio a la tierra un descanso sabático!
- +70 descansos del sábado x 7 años = 490 años

APPL – Nota interesante: Pedro le preguntó a Jesús: “Señor, ¿cuántas veces pecará mi hermano contra mí y yo lo perdonaré? ¿Hasta siete veces?” ¿Cuál fue la respuesta de Jesús?

Mateo 18:22, Jesús le dijo: “No te digo hasta siete, sino hasta setenta veces siete”.

Entonces, Daniel estaba confesando el pecado de Israel porque no habían guardado la Palabra de Dios y estaban sufriendo las consecuencias, un exilio en Babilonia durante setenta años.
Durante ese tiempo de oración y ayuno, Dios envió al ángel Gabriel a Daniel para compartir una palabra profética sobre el futuro de Israel que incluye otros “setenta sietes”. (Daniel 9:20)
En Daniel 9:24-27, los “setenta sietes” o “setenta semanas” se refieren a 70 períodos de siete años cada uno; cada semana equivale a siete años.
Las “setenta semanas” se dividen en tres partes:
- Durante las primeras siete semanas (49 años), la ciudad de Jerusalén será reconstruida y se restaurará el culto en el Templo.

2 Crónicas 36:22-23, En el primer año de Ciro, rey de Persia, para que se cumpliera la palabra del Señor por boca de Jeremías, el Señor despertó el espíritu de Ciro, rey de Persia, de modo que envió una proclamación por todo su reino, y también la puso por escrito, diciendo: Así dice Ciro, rey de Persia: El Señor, Dios del cielo, me ha dado todos los reinos de la tierra, y me ha designado para que le edifique una casa en Jerusalén, que está en Judá. Cualquiera que haya entre ustedes de todo su pueblo, que el Señor su Dios esté con él, y que suba”.

Después de sesenta y dos semanas (434 años), el “Mesías Príncipe” vendrá a Jerusalén pero “será cortado”. Esta profecía se cumplió hasta el mismo día en que Jesús entró triunfalmente en Jerusalén el Domingo de Ramos y fue crucificado por los pecados del mundo el Viernes Santo.

Lucas 19:41, 44, Cuando se acercó a Jerusalén, vio la ciudad y lloró sobre ella, diciendo: ¡Si hubieras conocido en este día, también tú, las cosas que contribuyen a la paz! Pero ahora se han ocultado a tus ojos. . . . porque no reconociste el tiempo de tu visitación”.

Luego vendrá un “príncipe” (que no debe confundirse con el “Mesías Príncipe”) durante una semana (7 años). ¿Quién es este príncipe? Se le conoce con otros nombres como la “Abominación Desoladora”, “La Bestia” y el “Anticristo”.

Transición – Observe lo que hará el Anticristo durante la primera mitad de la semana setenta. . .

El Anticristo hará un tratado de paz con Israel

Según Daniel 9:27, el príncipe “hará un pacto firme con muchos”, refiriéndose a Israel.
El Anticristo surgirá en tiempos de gran agitación económica y política.
Los enemigos de Israel se volverán más poderosos y las tensiones en el Medio Oriente se elevarán a niveles nunca antes vistos con Israel como punto focal (Ezequiel 38-39).
Entonces el Anticristo aparecerá en la escena mundial como un líder mundial respetado y será venerado como un genio diplomático.
Porque intentará y tendrá éxito donde otros lo han intentado y fracasado.

Daniel 8:23-25 – Nueva Biblia de las Américas

23 Y al final de su reinado, cuando los transgresores se acaben, Se levantará un rey, insolente y hábil en intrigas.

24 -»Su poder será grande, pero no por su propio poder; destruirá en forma extraordinaria, prosperará y hará su voluntad. Destruirá a los poderosos y al pueblo santo.

25 -»Y por su astucia hará que el engaño prospere por su influencia. Él se engrandecerá en su corazón, y destruirá a muchos que están confiados. Aún se levantará contra el Príncipe de los príncipes, pero será destruido sin intervención humana.

Negociará con éxito un tratado de paz entre Israel y las naciones del mundo.
Parte de ese pacto incluirá permitir que Israel reconstruya el Templo en Jerusalén para que puedan reanudar la oferta de sacrificios.

ILLUS – Israel se está preparando para la reconstrucción del Templo y el restablecimiento de los sacrificios.

Durante la primera mitad de la Gran Tribulación, Israel considerará al Anticristo como su gran benefactor, como el resto del mundo. ¿Por qué? Porque el Anticristo será empoderado por Satanás para engañar.

2 Tesalonicenses 2:8-10, Entonces se manifestará aquel inicuo a quien el Señor matará con el aliento de su boca, y acabará con la apariencia de su venida, es decir, aquel cuya venida es conforme a la actividad de Satanás, con todo poder, señales y prodigios falsos, y con todo engaño de maldad para los que se pierden, porque no recibieron el amor de la verdad para ser salvos.

Transición – Pero a la mitad de la Gran Tribulación, el Anticristo revelará sus verdaderos colores. . .

El Anticristo romperá su tratado con Israel

Daniel 9:27 continúa: “… pero a la mitad de la semana pondrá fin a los sacrificios y a las ofrendas de grano; y en el ala de las abominaciones vendrá el que hace la desolación, hasta que se derrame una destrucción completa, decretada, sobre el que hace la desolación”.
El Anticristo romperá el pacto de paz 3.5 años después de su firma.
Establecerá una nueva religión mundial al establecerse en el Templo recién reconstruido en Jerusalén como un dios para ser adorado.

2 Tesalonicenses 2:3-4, Nadie os engañe de ninguna manera, porque no vendrá sin que primero venga la apostasía, y se manifieste el hombre de iniquidad, el hijo de destrucción, el cual se opone y se levanta sobre todo dios u objeto de adoración, de modo que se sienta en el templo de Dios, mostrándose a sí mismo como Dios.

De hecho, según Apocalipsis 13:14-18, hará que se coloque una estatua viviente de sí mismo en el Templo.
Su compañero, el falso profeta, hará que toda la Tierra lo adore.
Satanás siempre ha querido que el mundo lo adore, y en el medio de la Gran Tribulación, el mundo hará precisamente eso, aquellos que han tomado la “marca de la bestia”.
Israel se dará cuenta de que su “benefactor” es su “perseguidor” final y responderá con gran ira contra su profanación del Templo.
Entonces, el Anticristo hará que todas las naciones que estaban en contra de Israel se levanten y ataquen a Israel.
Para los judíos que viven en Jerusalén, será un momento muy peligroso. Entonces, Jesús les advierte que huyan en Mateo 24:15-18, “(entienda el lector), entonces los que están en Judea deben huir a los montes. El que esté en la azotea no debe bajar a sacar las cosas que hay en su casa. Quien esté en el campo no debe volver a buscar su manto”.
Jesús dijo: “Si aquellos días no hubieran sido acortados, ninguna vida se habría salvado; pero por causa de los escogidos aquellos días serán acortados”. (22)

Transición – Cuando Jesús mencionó a los “elegidos”, ¿se refería a la Iglesia? Para responder a esta pregunta, pasaremos a nuestra segunda pregunta. . .

¿Pasará la iglesia por la Gran Tribulación?

Hemos establecido que la Gran Tribulación es el derramamiento de la ira de Dios sobre la humanidad incrédula y sobre toda nación rebelde. Observe cómo Jesús lo describió en Apocalipsis 3:10:

Apocalipsis 3:10, Por cuanto habéis guardado la palabra de mi perseverancia, yo también os guardaré de la hora de la prueba, la hora que está por venir sobre el mundo entero, para probar a los que moran en la tierra.

También hemos visto que Israel es el punto focal de la Gran Tribulación porque Daniel 9:24 dice: “Setenta semanas han sido decretadas para tu pueblo y tu ciudad santa…”
Calvary Chapel sostiene que la Biblia enseña un Rapto de la Iglesia antes de la tribulación.
Esto significa que los “elegidos” de los que habla Jesús en Mateo 24:22, no son la Iglesia porque la Iglesia será arrebatada antes de que comience la Gran Tribulación. ¿Por qué?

La Iglesia es objeto de la gracia de Dios

La Gran Tribulación que vendrá sobre el mundo, también se llama la “ira de Dios”.
Es importante notar que la ira de Dios no está destinada a la Iglesia porque la ira que merecíamos cayó sobre Jesucristo cuando murió en la cruz por nuestros pecados.

1 Tesalonicenses 5:9, Porque Dios no nos ha destinado para ira, sino para alcanzar salvación por medio de nuestro Señor Jesucristo

¿Cómo se salvará la Iglesia de la ira de Dios en esos días?
Respuesta: La Iglesia será “arrebatada”.
El rapto es cuando la Iglesia es “tomada” o “arrebatada” para encontrarse con el Señor “en el aire”.

1 Tesalonicenses 4:16-17, Porque el Señor mismo con voz de mando, con voz de arcángel y con trompeta de Dios, descenderá del cielo, y los muertos en Cristo resucitarán primero. Entonces nosotros, los que vivimos, los que hayamos quedado, seremos arrebatados juntamente con ellos en las nubes para recibir al Señor en el aire, y así estaremos siempre con el Señor.

Transición – ¿Por qué algunas personas dicen que la Iglesia pasará por parte o por la totalidad de la Gran Tribulación?

Es importante tener en cuenta que todos los eruditos bíblicos están de acuerdo en que la Iglesia no es objeto de la ira de Dios; que la Iglesia debe ser eliminada antes de que comience.
“Cuando” comienza la ira de Dios durante la Gran Tribulación es donde los eruditos bíblicos no están de acuerdo.

La ira de Dios comienza con el juicio del primer sello

Apocalipsis nos da una ventana al cielo antes del comienzo de la Gran Tribulación.
El apóstol Juan fue “arrebatado” al cielo y vio a Dios el Padre en el trono.

Apocalipsis 4:1-2, Después de estas cosas miré, y he aquí una puerta abierta en el cielo, y la primera voz que había oído, como el sonido de una trompeta que hablaba conmigo, dijo: Sube acá, y te mostraré lo que ha de suceder después de estas cosas. Inmediatamente estuve en el Espíritu; y he aquí que había un trono en pie en el cielo, y uno sentado en el trono.

Luego, en Apocalipsis 5:1, Juan notó un rollo sellado con siete sellos en la mano derecha de Dios.

Apocalipsis 5:1, Vi en la mano derecha del que estaba sentado en el trono un libro escrito por dentro y por detrás, sellado con siete sellos.

Un ángel fuerte proclamó a gran voz: “¿Quién es digno de abrir el libro y romper sus sellos?” (2)
Al principio, Juan lloró porque nadie en el cielo o en la tierra fue encontrado digno de abrir el libro o de mirarlo. (3-4)
Pero un anciano le dijo a Juan: “Deja de llorar; he aquí, el León que es de la tribu de Judá, la Raíz de David, ha vencido para abrir el libro y sus siete sellos”. (5)
A continuación, Juan describe un momento santo.

Apocalipsis 5:6-7, Y vi entre el trono (con los cuatro seres vivientes) y los ancianos un Cordero de pie, como inmolado… Y vino y tomó el libro de la mano derecha del que estaba sentado en el trono.

Los cuatro seres vivientes, los ángeles y los ancianos se postraron ante Aquel que se sentó en el trono y el Cordero y adoraron. (9-14)
Tome nota especial de lo que sucede a continuación en Apocalipsis 6:1-2.

Apocalipsis 6:1-2, Y vi cuando el Cordero quebró uno de los siete sellos, y oí a uno de los cuatro seres vivientes que decía como con voz de trueno: Ven. Miré, y he aquí un caballo blanco, y el que estaba sentado en él tenía un arco; y se le dio una corona, y salió venciendo y venciendo.

APPL – ¿Qué significa todo esto?

Primero, es Dios el Padre quien está en el trono. Él es soberano sobre los cielos y la tierra.
En segundo lugar, es Dios el Padre quien sostiene el rollo con los siete sellos. Por lo tanto, Él es el Autor y Poseedor del rollo.
Tercero, es Jesucristo quien es digno de tomar el rollo de Aquel que está sentado en el trono.
Cuarto, también es Jesucristo quien abre el primer sello y cuando se abre ese sello, se convoca al Anticristo.
- Monta un caballo blanco porque es un engañador.
- Lleva un arco porque hará la guerra contra todos los que se le opongan, especialmente contra Israel.
Entonces, ¿cuándo comienza la ira de Dios? Cuando Jesús abre el primer sello y envía al Anticristo.
Esto marca el comienzo de la Gran Tribulación y el derramamiento de la ira de Dios.
Es por esta razón que la Iglesia debe ser arrebatada antes de la llegada del Anticristo y el comienzo de la Gran Tribulación.
Una vez más, ¡Dios no ha destinado a la Iglesia para su ira, sino por su gracia y amor!

Conclusión

APPL – Jesucristo viene por Su Iglesia.

Por favor, no se quede atrás.
Ahora es el momento de prepararse poniendo tu fe en Jesucristo para que pueda escapar de la ira de la Gran Tribulación y de la ira eterna de Dios en el lago de fuego.

Juan 3:16, Porque de tal manera amó Dios al mundo, que ha dado a su Hijo unigénito, para que todo aquel que en él cree, no se pierda, mas tenga vida eterna.

Y para aquellos que han puesto su fe en Jesucristo, que pertenecen a la Iglesia que un día será raptada, les pregunto: “¿Qué clase de personas debemos ser?”
Las palabras del apóstol Juan lo dicen mejor:

28 Y ahora, hijos, permanezcan en Él, para que cuando se manifieste, tengamos confianza y no nos apartemos de Él avergonzados en Su venida.
